CHAPTER 68: WREATHS AND CHARMS

2198 Words

BRIAR’S POV The news of Annalise’s demise and Hail’s death has spread across the entire castle faster than wildfire, casting a dark shadow over the halls and everyone in them. As for me, I still haven’t figured out how I should feel about it. So many questions remain unanswered. By now, the gossip of a witch infiltrating the castle is no longer a secret—it’s the latest rave. Maids and servants pass around local myths about wearing charms to shield themselves from a witch's spell, and hanging wreaths on doors to protect them while they sleep. All that nonsense can’t possibly be true. If a simple bush were strong enough to keep witches away, they wouldn’t be considered dangerous in the first place, nor would the gods waste so much energy banishing them and making their craft taboo.
