The moon was out, hanging heavy amidst the stars that lit up the dark sky and Elara was not yet back.
Where could she have possibly gone? I'd gone into her chambers as usual to check on her that evening but she was gone.
Instead, the smell of a sweet fragrance filled my nostrils when I entered. That told me all that I needed to know.
I tried to get words from her personal maids that were assigned to her, but they all gave me the repetitive answer; they hadn't seen her all day.
At some point, I knew it had to be a lie because I had seen her the same morning before she'd disappeared that evening, so how could she have eluded them all, and I was the only one who had seen her.
