CHAPTER TWO

The bastard had to send his underdog to try to get to me. But he didn’t do his research very well. But I needed to see him. Or at least send him a message through this bastard. Him wanting to see me by any means necessary meant it was something important. But that didn’t justify his cowardly behavior. This only showed how low of an alpha he was. He wasn’t meant to lead those people. The werewolf charged towards me. I waited until he reached four feet from me. Then I ducked and stretched my leg - enough for him to trip on his and slam his face flat on the ground. I swiftly got to the ground and demon pinned him to the ground. “Don’t underestimate the power of a woman. Now you will go and tell your alpha that I will meet him at the restaurant close to my house. It is the only one there so he will know it,” he groaned. “I look forward to seeing you again, Wolfe,” I laughed lightly and run as first as I could. After running for miles, I looked back and saw that he wasn’t following me. I stopped and sat on the bench to take a breath. I just hoped he will tell the alpha my message. I needed to see that bastard. But I needed to be careful around him. He needed me for something and that something was not good. After walking for miles, I finally reached home. Then it hit me. I was covered in dirt. My mother would freak out seeing me like that. She will have many questions and I will have nothing to tell her. I needed to keep this from her or she will have a heart attack. And that was something I wouldn’t allow. She was the only family I had, and I needed her by my side. But that also meant I needed to protect her. From the alpha. If he ever finds out I had a mother, then he might end up using her as leverage. To make me do whatever he wanted me to do. I touched the doorknob and pushed open the door. Then my mother got up and charged towards me. Her eyes tearing up. She was in her early forties and had black hair that was enough to brush her shoulders. Making her look even younger than her age. She had light eyes just like mine and a face that had been youthfully beautiful - making most men fall for her. But she just had to fall in love with a demon. What were the odds? She wore a blue long nightdress that covered her feet. I looked at her in awe, and then she hugged me. Having nothing to do, I just hugged her back. “Lukundo Mpundu, where the hell have you been? I have been calling you and. What the hell happened to you?” She examined me, moving about three steps back. “Well, what happened was. I scratched my head. “Er. I fell. Yeah, I fell. And the dogs chased me just around the corner. Hence, me sweating a lot,” I spoke, hoping against hope she bought it. written all over my face. But I made sure not to display any. “Come on. I’m back home aren’t I?” I grabbed her hand and dragged her to the couch. Then just as I was about to sit down, she spoke. “You are not thinking about sitting on my couch with such filthy clothes are you?” “But mother,” I looked at her. “Shower. Now. Lukundo I said shower. Then you gonna bring yourself back and start explaining what the hell happened. Because I didn’t buy anything about the dog chasing you. That story is the lamest you could ever come up with. Shower, now.” she gestured and sat down - resuming her reading. I just matched upstairs, thinking of another way to lie to my mother. But there was nothing I could think of. She knew me too well for me to lie to her. But I couldn’t tell her the truth. I needed to keep what happened tonight a secret from her. I wouldn’t want her to know about it. To get involved in my problems. She would want to get involved in all my problems. But she was a human. She needed not to know anything about this. The passageway got lit with lights that they attached to the walls - making the place look even brighter. I passed about three bedrooms then reached my bedroom. I pushed open the door and went inside. Immediately my eyes locked with my comfortable looking-bed. It was not a big room, but it was enough to certain my moves. My closet was to my left and a black leather couch was to the other side. As I walked towards my bed, I began to think, why did the alpha want me. I paused for a while. Could dad be the reason? But he could be. I said to myself with doubt. But then again dad was a demon, he must have done something before he died. I moved back and forth trying to figure out what was happening. As I was pacing around, I heard a voice calling out to me. “Lukundo Get downstairs now!” My mother shouted - enough to make someone miles away I listen. With all the theories going through my head, I even forgot about her. But no matter what, I needed not tell her what was going on. “I’m coming mom,” I yelled enough for her to listen. But she knew me better. She could tell when I was lying. But I needed to mask my worries up. “Why is it taking you so long to come downstairs?” asked, glaring at me as she put her book down. “I was getting dressed mom. I’m here now,” I sat on the opposite couch - but avoiding her eyes. We sat there in silence, my mother’s eyes slicing me up. But I didn’t dare to speak up. I just sat there waiting for her to speak up as I figured what the hell I was going to say to her. Then a thought hit me that brought a smile to my face. Bringing a topic about my father might surely help me out of this situation. Every time I asked her about my father she always tried to mask it up - only telling me that I needed not to worry about that.
