Chapter Eight: Taking in a new pack

Thinking out loud Gina said, “I wonder if we have a schoolteacher among our pack. I was thinking we should start our own school for the younger ones until they leave us to go to high school.”

“That’s a terrific idea, it would save a lot of money in school fees. We could get some trees from the other side of the forest away from the pack house and cut it into boards to build a schoolhouse.

I will investigate it for you Gina.” “Thank you, Alpha.” “I think we have gone as far as we can go on improving the pack. They all train now, and we are getting more pups because of the healthy eating habits.”

“Yes, you are right there. I can’t think of anything else to improve upon the only thing that’s not here is a doctor's surgery.”

“You're right we should have a doctor on hand with all the new pups we are getting.”

Well, I better get back and finish my cleaning, you know you can just let the Omegas do that.” “Yes, I could but I like to clean, it gives me time to think.”

As life goes on the pack are happier and most have stopped complaining about other people and are just enjoying the tranquility of the pack. The hour I gave to listen to the complaints is no more.

So, I do extra training. If they need to vent, they just come and see me wherever I am. I’m fine with that. We have guests coming again to see the layout of the pack grounds and house. It’s Alpha Graham and his Luna.

I have put a roast on and made ten meringue pies and ten apples, some whipped cream and fresh custard, gravy for the roast that’s left on the stove to keep hot, I put fresh bread on as well. The house is filled with all the different smells.

Everyone who comes in puts their nose up in the air to smell, it’s quite funny to watch.

I’ve peeled the potatoes and pumpkin and cut to bite size, raw meat is cut into cubes, all vegetables ready to cook, taking the scraps out for the chickens, and check for eggs, as I look over to my left, I see one of our cows down I think she is having her calf.

I ran over to help, then I noticed she’s tied down I quickly mind link the Alpha I’m in trouble. Letting him know I’m in the cow field, most of the pack came as back up. Would you believe it’s the Alpha who we thought of as a friend.

The pack took him to the Alpha, Gina could see Alpha Stephen was mad as hell. So, mad his face was bright red. “Take him to the cells he roared.”

The pack came in and washed their hands then sat waiting for the food to be dished up. ready to enjoy the fruits of our labour.

I stand, all put their knives and forks down to listen. “I just wanted to thank you all for coming to my rescue today so thank you.” Someone called out we have your back Luna.” I bow my head to show them I respect them.

I can’t understand why he tried to steal me from my pack. His Luna arrives begging for an audience with the Alpha and me, so we grant her wish. “Please Sir, Miss, Alpha Graham didn’t mean to do anything wrong it’s just that we are struggling to feed our pack he was desperate. All he saw was that you had everything here.” “But Gina worked hard to get this pack to where it is today, through hard work on her part, it didn’t happen overnight.” “We are all sick and dying.” “That is our fault how,” Alpha Stephen asked.

He is angry, you can see it in his eyes. She is trying to make excuses.

“We just wanted her to show us how to look after everything once it was brought.” “You couldn’t come and speak with Gina. She is approachable.”

Then the Luna breaks down and cries, Alpha Stephen said “I told your mate, Gina doesn’t leave this compound, her old pack which is run by her grandfather wants her for some reason, they were cruel to her then, imagine what they will do to her now.

You put her life at risk, for selfish reasons. However, I may have a solution. How many are there of you.” “We are only one hundred and fifty, mostly women and children ten warriors and maybe sixty fighters.”

“Hm, can you give us a minute please.” “Beta can you come to my office.” A minute later the Beta walks in.

“Can you take Luna down to the dining room and give her some food please. Once you have done that, can you bring the Alpha up here under guard. Thank you.”

“Yes, Alpha he bows and tells the Luna to follow him.” The Luna turns and bows too. “Thank you, Alpha, for listening to me.”

When they were alone her uncle said, “Are we thinking the same thing.” “If you mean join the two packs together yes but what about the Alpha, he may want to keep his Alpha status.” “We will have to see first. Do we help them, yes of course.”

Then the Alpha is brought in with his head lowered. You can see he is ashamed of his actions. “Your Luna has pleaded your case to us.” “Why did you see fit to steal Gina away from us.” The Alpha looks up at Gina saying to her.

“I’m sorry Gina, I will except whatever punishment you deem fit for my crime.” “Well, we have come up with a solution but it’s up to you.” “Anything, my pack is dying.” “Yes, we know, we have talked it over and Gina thinks you should join our pack it will mean you lose your Alpha status; Your Luna can help Gina with the running of the two packs.

Once your pack is fit again you can go back to your own land, or you can build here and run your pack from here.” He gives a sob. “You would do that for us.”

“Gina wants to help you, me I would make you pay for hurting her, your Luna is in the dining room would you like some food.” “You are to kind Alpha; Miss Gina thank you both.”

“Gina, will you take Alpha Graham down to the dining room please.” “Yes, Alpha Stephens she bows then says follow me please.”

“I notice you all bow, why is that.” “It’s a show of respect for anyone you have spoken to, we all say yes please and no thank you it’s called manners. This pack is happy I would like to keep it that way.”

Entering the dining room, Gina calls over an Omega. “Would you mind bringing a plate of food for the Alpha please. “Yes, Miss Gina.”She nods as she walks away and comes back with a plate full of fresh meat with vegetables, some raw meat, and a piece of pie on the side. “If you will excuse me, I need to put the bread on. Luna, would you like to watch.”

“May I.” “Yes of course come please.” She follows Gina out to the kitchen. “Are you done girls.” “Yes Miss Gina.” “Then take your food and go and eat thank you for your help.” “Your welcome Miss Gina.” They all chanted. “Your pack is so respectful to each other.” “Yes, we are.” “I’m getting the bread ready for tomorrow morning’s breakfast. We have two bread makers.” “You have a dishwasher,” the Luna exclaimed.

“Yes, it’s mainly for cleanliness and efficiency the Omegas work hard I try to make their life easier it makes them happy; We don’t have any bad behavior here we are a happy pack.” I measure out the ingredients for the two bread makers and set the timers all the time explaining to the Luna what I’m doing. Then I set both machines to start baking at four in the morning, I tell her, “The smell is amazing, it goes right through the pack house.

“Come I’ll show you the cool room. As I pick up the lantern and we go out back, it’s not far from the house we keep all food in here at a cool temperature, the earth helps keep it like that I make bulk butter it stays in here until we need some.

The milk is always fresh, one of the men milks the cows for me now and brings in the eggs. I get the vegetables I need for the day from the garden, I do all the cooking.” “Really! but I don’t cook I don’t know how to.” Luna says with a sob. “I can teach you if you want.”

They go back inside. “Why do you have someone follow you everywhere.” “Because my grandfather is trying to kidnap me to take me back to his pack.” “I’m sorry, the Luna says for putting you in danger.”

Back in the dining room Gina asks. “If you both have finished looking around, please follow me.” Gina takes them both back up to the Alphas office. As she knocks. “The Alpha calls out, come in Gina.” Opening the door, she says to the Alpha and Luna, “After you both.”

They walked in, Alpha Stephen tells them to take a seat. “Have you two given it any thought to our offer.”

“Yes,” Alpha Graham said, “but I need to speak to my Luna, I’m sure she will agree with me.”

“Is all well Gina.” “Yes Alpha, the girls are just having their dinner they will fill the dishwasher putting it on for me to empty in the morning.”

“Alpha Stephen, how is this going to work.” “Well while you are here, I’m top dog so to speak you can still help your pack. But we don’t tolerate bad behavior, we expect you to keep your pack in line. We will feed your pack in return. Your pack will help run the herd and gardens it will help them when you go back to your own lands.

I believe Gina will help your Luna, how to look after everything and cook. We will give you a year to get on your feet. Just remember don’t try to take over this pack. This pack is loyal to us. My pack members may kill your pack so be warned.”

Both nod with their eyes wide saying together, “We understand.” “You will need to make some houses for your members, but you and your Luna will live here with us in the pack house.

I suggest you talk with your pack first see if they want to learn how to survive and not to fight that will come later.”

“Yes, thank you Alpha Stephen you are to kind.” “Our pleasure but don’t take our kindness for weakness.” They leave to talk to their pack.
