Chapter Seven: We have apple trees
They pick Leon up and leave. “Good riddance.”
My fellow pack members laugh again, “Thank you everyone you can break ranks now they have gone well done.”
“Are you hurt Alpha.” “No, I’m good, you fought well.” “It is on the Beta he pushed me to better myself he said I’m a very strong wolf because I’m blessed by the Moon Goddess herself.” “Well, you order my ranks around like they are your own.” “I’m sorry Alpha but it just came naturally to me.” You are a great asset to this pack I’m grateful you chose to come looking for me.
Who would have thought I’m your uncle. I am still trying to get my head around that.”
“Do you think they will try again.”
“No, you killed his heir; he will be licking his wounds for a while they will tell him how strong you are he will not want to lose any more pack members, as it is his pack is weak now.”
“I should have challenged him as well, he is a cruel Alpha so is his pack, they take great delight in hurting someone lower than themselves. It’s been two weeks since we have heard anything from the Gray Moon Pack. The Silver Moon Pack retold the story to the lesser wolves of how the battle was won.
How their very own Alpha defeated the Gray Moon Alpha, how their very own Gina had killed the heir to that pack was spectacular.
Her wolf is beautiful. Our days were spent training. I spend my time in my garden each day pulling weeds, watering, they are all growing fast. We will have fresh vegetables plus fruit soon.
I pick and peel the first apple, cutting it up then plate it to take it up to the Alpha. Knocking I wait for him to call. “Come in Gina.” “Sorry to bother you, Alpha. I just wanted to give you the first apple off our trees.” “We have apples trees.” “Yes, Sir they are growing out back by the garden, if you find the time you should have a look.
Most of the pack helps me with the weeding, watering too. I had one of the pack members make a seat so we can enjoy the tranquility of the garden, it’s worth a look, let me know if the apple is sweet or sour.”
Heading down to the kitchen, I cut the bread for lunch, then making meat sandwiches for the Alpha to take it up to him knocking. “Sorry Alpha, your lunch.
The bread it’s homemade hope you enjoy it.” “I’m sure if you made it, I would enjoy it.”
At dinner the Alpha calls Gina over, telling her the bread is so much nicer than brought bread. “Thank you, Alpha. Can we get a cow for fresh milk maybe some chickens for fresh eggs, I can get one of the pack members to make a chicken coop we only need six chickens.”
He looks at me then smiles. “You are quite the nature girl.” “It makes sense to grow our own, cheaper as the scraps from the kitchen will feed the chickens, the cow can eat the grass down.” “I will see to it for you.”
“Thank you, uncle, as she wraps her arms around his neck the pack looks on, as they smile. He looks surprised then pats her on her arm.
It’s the first time she has broken her tight hold on her manners to show him affection, he smiles then coughs sitting back down, she goes back to her seat.
In her old pack they would have hit her for asking for something, she loves this pack she will defend it to the end.
Her days are full, but she is happy. The cow had arrived, they made a fenced off piece of land for it to roam. There is a small milking shed with a small stool for Gina to sit on while milking.
Each morning Gina went out to milk it for fresh milk and draws off the cream so she can make butter. When they had finished the coop the chickens arrived, she had one of the Omegas pick up the eggs each day, soon they were eating from their garden, picking fruit from their trees.
Fresh orange juice each morning, apples to munch on during the day. They were getting used to the smells of fresh bread each morning, the Omegas loved the dishwashers.
They made their life so much easier for them. Soon the news of how Gina had changed the pack to become self-contained, was getting around they had a few Alphas from other packs ask to come and look around at how it was set up.
Alpha Stephen was proud that it was his niece who had changed the eating habits of the pack, with the fresh meat she cuts up each day.
That kept his pack in top condition. In fact, if he thought about it, the cost of setting up was small compared to the savings they were now making. They never ran out of fresh food, maybe he should start a herd of cows or maybe get a bull to increase the herd.
He didn’t say anything to Gina, so when she went to milk their only cow, she was surprised to see a herd of six munching in and around the field. Gina runs into the Alpha space and rapidly knocked on the door and waited impatiently to be asked in.
Then she throws the door open exclaiming “Alpha we have a herd of cows.” “I thought it would be good for fresh meat.”
“Do we have a butcher in the pack.” “I’m not sure but there will be someone who can cut up a cow.” “Can we have a BBQ and have steaks with salads it will be like a thank you for all their hard work in helping me.”
“Why not, you can organize that if you want.” “Yes, thank Alpha.” “Well off you go Gina.” She was like a little kid running around getting the BBQ ready.
Tables, chairs, and fire pit were set up, she sent Gamma Ryan for drinks, and the setting is ready all the pack was told at lunch to be out back the Omegas had put fairy lights in the fruit trees it looked amazing.
The pack came around to the back with wonder on their faces, they had never had a BBQ before they were told it was a thank you for all the hard work, they had put into helping their acting Luna.
When all were there Gina stood beside the Alpha and waited for him to finish, thanking everyone for coming to the pack BBQ.
Now enjoy yourselves, he roared. She just smiled, throughout the night the pack would seek Gina and the Alpha out to thank them for a wonderful surprise.
The next day Alpha Stephen waited for a neighboring Alpha to arrive to see the workings of his pack all thanks to Gina.
Alpha Stephen asked Gina to walk with them so she could answer any questions, “But Alpha you can answer for me I’m too busy to waste time showing them around.”
“Gina it’s only for a few hours and this pack is proud of you, so why can’t you put them first to show you care for them.”
“Alpha I would die for this pack.” “Yes, I believe you would Gina.” “We are proud you are one of us. “So, show the world just how proud you are of this pack.”
“Okay Alpha, I’ll get one of the Omegas to do my work.” “There’s my girl.” The next day as the visiting Alpha was escorted to the pack house his eyes were everywhere, my goddess you have done wonders with this pack.
“First let’s have some fresh bread that Gina has made and butter from the milking cow.” “You make your own bread and butter. “Yes, Gina does, would you like a fresh cup of coffee.” “Yes please.”
“Help yourself to the sandwiches and fresh cream, the meat is from our herd.
“Gina cooked a roast last night, so any meat left over she makes sandwiches.” “wow" “All scraps go to the chickens which give us eggs.
When one gets clucky, she is put into a pen on her own to sit on her eggs to hatch which gives us more chickens, we rotate them, so we always have eggs and chickens. If you have finished follow us outside.
This was the first project; Gina started it and got the whole pack together to help. This is our vegetable patch and over there our herds and off to your left are apples and orange trees and pear trees.
Also, some blueberries with blackberry bushes, and way over there is where we grow barley and wheat for flour, each year we kill two or three cows or bulls that go into the cold rooms for later use, we keep all our butter Jams, bottled vegetables and anything that can be frozen in here.
The Alpha opens the cool room door.” “wow” just “wow” “Please follow us, we took him to the fields this is where the cows are milked by hand. It makes the milk sweeter and butter harder. “How do you make butter?” “Well, you will have to ask Gina if she will give out her secrets.”
Over here is the chicken coop and where the hens lay their eggs for baby chicks, I lift the back and there are half a dozen eggs already. “Would you like to take some eggs home with you.” “You don’t mind” “No of course not.”
“Then yes please.”
Over here we built this as our slaughterhouse, it’s just a shed really. But it works for us, and of course you know about the bread, Gina gave an invitation to the Alpha for him to bring his Luna over for one night for tea. We would be delighted to meet her.
“Are you two related.” “Yes, Gina is my brother's child, she found me and has stayed with us ever since as acting Luna.
The pack adores her, ask anyone, everyone trains, and everyone helps with the running of the herd and chickens some love the garden and spend a lot of time pottering and weeding.
I had a dishwasher put in to help the Omegas with washing up, it saves time and water. Our food bill is cut in half.” “My goddess, I’m going to put some of your ideas into motion, can I borrow Gina for a few weeks.”
“I’m sorry Alpha Graham but Gina doesn’t leave these grounds. Her old pack have tried to steal her a few times.” “I’m sorry to hear that which is your old pack, Miss Gina?” Grey Moon Pack.”
“Yeah, that Alpha is a cruel Alpha. “Yes, he is, he is my grandfather. Please let us know what day you wish to come back.” “I will, thank you for the eggs” “Your welcome.” Once the Alpha left. Her uncle told Gina he thought it went well. But Gina’s mind was on other things.
