Chapter Two: Turning thirteen
Then go to bed, I fall asleep before my head hits the pillow, I’m so tired. Why can’t they get someone to help me clean.
We have Omegas in this pack, but they lounge around watching me do all the work, I close my eyes to dream of mum and dad who loved me.
We would go to the beach and have picnic lunches. Dad loved to see my mother smiling; I hate my life in this pack. My birthday is coming up and I want to ask the Alpha if I can have the day off to go shopping at the mall.
I still have most of the money that was left to me by my parents when they passed it was my inheritance, and the Alpha can’t get his hands on it so I don’t have to ask the Alpha for help, I’m not sure he would appreciate that anyway.
I am standing outside his door giving myself a good talking too. Telling myself to suck it up just go in and ask. But to my horror Alpha Leon was in the office that day and he pulled the door open dragging me into his father.
“Look what was lurking outside your door father.” Throwing me in front of the Alpha. “What do you want?” “If you please Alpha I was wondering if I could have tomorrow off to go to the mall.”
“Why do you need to go to the mall?” “It’s my birthday Sir, I would like to go to the mall to shop.” Alpha Leon pipes up and says, “She is thirteen tomorrow,” and nods to his father.
Then he looks at his father with a funny weird look on his face. Tomorrow being my birthday I can’t tell anyone that I have shifted already when I was ten. Maya is my best friend. I have had to hide her away like a thief. To make it look like I don’t have a wolf yet.
But tomorrow I’ll be thirteen and I can shift into my wolf. I’m so excited. “You can have three hours at the mall then come home to do your chores.” the Alpha snarled.
“Leon go with her to make sure she comes back after her three hours.” “Yes father.” He smirks at me; I roll my eyes behind his back. “Thank you, Alpha.” He nods, waving his hand telling me to go.
I ran out of his office with a smile on my face. A day to myself to shop no less. Well three hours, but I can work with three hours first off.
A haircut then a new dress one that fits properly I squeal with delight as I head back down to the laundry room. Leon is hot on my heels.
“You will wait outside for me tomorrow, don’t keep me waiting or you’ll be sorry.” I use my Alpha speed to clean the pack house, that’s why weekends are the worst because I can’t show my speed, they all know I’m Alpha blood and know the Alpha has forbidden me to use my strength on any pack member.
But what they don’t know is that the Alphas orders can’t stop me as Maya is stronger than him and his orders mean nothing to her, she just laughs when he gives me an order. I’m not telling them that I have a wolf.
The pack knows that I have Alpha blood, but they don’t know I have an Alpha wolf and I’m not telling them. Why they play their little games with me is beyond me I don’t know.
But today I'm excited nobody can dampen my spirit today. I’m thirteen I could shift I smile to myself if they only knew I’ve been shifting for the past three years I’d be in so much trouble.
I’m a strong Alpha, maybe I should take over the pack to teach these cruel wolves a thing or too. That’s a good idea Maya said.
“But we will have to fight both Alphas, I tell her to win this shitty pack.” “Yeah, that’s not a good idea," Maya replied.
“Then what are we to do.” I don’t think they are worth it.” “Let’s leave we can go to your dad’s pack. When you are in town find out what kind of pack it is, who the Alpha is.” “I can’t because Alpha Leon has been told to go with me.”
“Then buy a smartphone to make inquiries from that.” “When did you become smart Maya.” I asked her. “Just natural I guess.” She replied. “Yeah right.” I laugh.
I brought the latest iPhone and went on a plan that had the money come out of my account every month. I hid it from the pack in my so-called room. I also had my hair cut up to my shoulders making it much easier to manage.
I was happy but Alpha Leon was not. I’m not sure what his problem was, he wore a permanent sour look on his face. I told him I had to go to the forest to shift at midnight.
“I’ll come with you to help, having your mate or Alpha helps with the pain.” “No need to bother yourself I should be fine.” “Wait out the front for me.” I give a sigh “yes Alpha Leon.”
“What am I going to do it is supposed to take ages to shift.” “I can make it take as long as you like.” “Can you.” “Dah…this is me you are talking to.” “Oh of course, okay you're it tonight.” As nighttime came around, I was getting nervous, but Maya said this is going to be fun to stop worrying.
When it came time to go into the woods Alpha Leon was walking ahead showing me where a good place was to shift.
I’m chatting to Maya, taking no notice of him or where I was walking, he had stopped, I didn’t notice and like I said I wasn’t paying attention walking straight into his back.
“Oh! my goodness I’m sorry Alpha Leon pardon my clumsiness I’m a little nervous.” “Yes, well don’t be it won't hurt as much with me being here to help you.” “You're to kind.”
Are you ready to do your show of the century Maya,” “you got it kiddo,” then she has me doing all these weird twists and turns. Making me call out like I’m in pain.
Alpha Leon is telling me to breathe through the pain he sounds so caring, but I know he’s not. “It’s like he’s treating us as his mate Maya says.” “What no,” I called out to Maya.
“Well, it should have been the Alpha, or your mate. Think about it.” “He gives me the creeps.” She keeps this up for over two hours. I’m exhausted from screaming trying to keep up with her. She’s having fun, not me so much I’m sweating and I’m hot, then suddenly Maya decides to appear she’s here in all her glory. “Gina your wolf is beautiful Alpha Leon exclaims.”
I pretend to stand then fall. He laughs; it changes his whole face when he smiles. I try again this time I shake my legs only to face plant when I take a step again, he grabs my leg to save me from hurting myself. “Now think four feet then walk slowly to get used to them.” Maya wants to run.
“Wait, not yet just let him think we are still trying to get our footing.” “Will you be okay now I’m going to change to go for a run.”
"I’m good thank you Alpha for helping.” “If you want to change back, just think of yourself in human form.” “Thank you, Sir.”
He goes behind a tree to change into his beautiful black wolf. With a half white star on his forehead like mine. “Is he, my mate.”
Maya says, “no” Did you see his markings. I bet he’s gone to see the Alpha to tell him we have the same markings;” Maya runs to the office.
Sure, enough he’s there walking up and down the carpet talking to his father, you can see he is agitated. He knew beforehand he just needed confirmation to see with his own eyes, that’s why he helped me.
The bastard. Maya let’s go for a run.” She’s all for that as she lets out a loud howl. Most of the pack answered her. Well, that is new, I’m happy to be able to run free. I don’t want to be their slave anymore. I will try to think of a way to leave to go to my father's pack.
I don’t know much about my parents as my father always said they didn’t want him to marry my mother. He never told me what the problem was. The best time to leave is at midnight when all the pack are asleep up in their rooms. The patrols change at midnight as well. There will be no one patrolling during the changeover time.
That’s our window of time to sneak away. I pack what little I have, my new iPhone my bank card some cash with the few clothes I have brought over the years. I’m wearing a pair of jeans, a white T-shirt, and a coat for warmth not that I need to be warm and my sneakers.
I go out the window being as quiet as I can, climbing down the big old tree beside my room which has come in handy. I take off at top speed I know once I go outside the boundaries, they will know someone has left. “Do I break my ties with them or not what do you think Maya.”
“I say let’s get the hell out of dodge.” As she picks up the pace. We are running in human form because it’s easier.
By daybreak we are miles from the pack. We circled around five cities as well as lots of small towns. We stop at one small town as Maya is sure she can smell a witch. “Can you find her.” “Yes, I think so.” We are going to ask her for help to hide our scent. We walked around and I bought something to eat and drink, Maya picks up her scent again and says the witch is not far from us now and to keep walking straight ahead.” “Are you hungry Maya; I can buy you a piece of meat.” “No, I’m good. There,” she calls out, “that shop with the purple door.”
As I open the door a bell tingles letting her know she has customers. “Good morning my dear, how may I help you “We were wondering if you could cover our scent up” “Why?” the witch asked.” “Because we have ran away from our pack.” “From whom?” “The Grey Moon Pack.” I reply “Alpha Leon, and his dad Anthony.” “Please don’t let them know we are here. Please, I beg you.
