The Summer Bucket List
Prologue
I’m back!
Gazing at the blue sky, feeling the summer breeze in my favorite place, Morehead City.
I miss this!
My favorite season of the year, Summer. Feeling the refreshing heat at the beach, the rough feeling of sand sticking onto the wet skin, the glimmering surface of the sea underneath the sunlight. The perfect season to eat vanilla ice cream with cheese, pick seashells and make bracelets with it. A perfect season for a bicycle ride and a cozy picnic underneath the trees.
Everything about summer.
And most importantly, make a Summer Bucket List with my best friend. A considered tradition where we list all the things we want to experience every summer. Reminiscing all those memories hit me. It’s been sixteen years since I had a perfect summer, in this place and with the same people. I am twenty-four now. It feels different standing here in the same spot where I used to watch the sunrise by the beach.
Will my summer be the same, fun, beautiful and unforgettable?
But this is my last chance to make it up to the lost years. This is my last chance to fulfill our Summer Bucket List before I get married and permanently leave Morehead. And I can’t wait to do it all, with the person I promised to do it with, August. A perfect name for Summer.
Talking about him, how is he?
How’s his life? Especially how are his summers?
I hope he hasn’t forgotten me, just like I never once forgotten him.
I hope I’m still his best friend. I know everything has changed now. We’re not kids anymore. He has his life and I have mine. But I highly hope he’ll still do it with me.
It’s our Summer Bucket List after all.
I can do it alone, but it’s much more if he'd do it with me.
