Chantria Averill’s point of view:
Kamala and I are now heading to our favorite spot for lunch, to the rooftop. We just finished our second period class this morning. Like the normal "first day of class", endless introductions took place again. Since we are in our junior year, our subjects have been lessened. Before, there were ten. Now, we only have seven subjects. I'm hoping that this school year will be easier, so I will have an opportunity to receive a tutor for the lower years who want to be tutored. Since my first year, I have been a scholar of this University of Machiavellian. That's why I have to do academics and work at the same time to survive.
At first, I had a really hard time. At a young age, I needed to support myself because my parents couldn't do that for me. Can't blame them, though. I had reached the point where I felt like there was a need, and I was ready to give up on my dream of graduating from this school. Luckily, I met my friend, Kamala. Despite her situation, she never hesitates to help others, especially me. It's just funny because, despite the pain the world gave and made her experience, she didn't choose to return the pain it made her feel. She never hurt other people. She never did.
"What's that?" while we were going up to the last floor before the rooftop, I asked Kamala.
"Food," she answered briefly. Of course, she is Kamala. You can't expect her to elaborate the obvious.
“I know that's food, I mean what kind of food?!” I answered her, faking anger and she remained calm. That's her. She can be the calmest person you can ever know.
"Make it clear, Chan. You know a lot of people get hurt because of miscommunication," she said seriously, and I shook my head.
"You know what," I pulled her hand to stop her from walking. "Common sense exists these days." I said while looking at her and she sighed before speaking.
"Chantria," she called my name. "What's common to you might not be common to others." She said and I thought about what she said.
"On point." I just replied, and she just laughed before starting to walk again.
One thing I admire about the friendship I have with Kamala is that we don't hesitate to correct each other if we think something is wrong or not good when it comes to what we are doing and even to our perspective. We have been friends for a long time, and I can say that we are happy with each other, even if there are misunderstandings and disagreements. I am happy because we have never left each other, not even once.
“Finally!” Kamala shouted as she welcomed the cold breeze outside. This is how she is. For some unknown reason, she can rest anywhere as long as there are trees and plants. Even when seeing the vast ocean and starry sky.
"Cut the amusement, Kamala. Let's eat first. Our next class is at 12:30 pm, it's 11:46." I said to her while walking toward this rooftop where we have a small table.
After a while, I felt her following me. I arranged the food I had brought on the small table until I saw Kamala's hand while also putting down her bag. It's like we're in a pick nick when we eat here, because we can see the wide oval below while the food and drinks are in front of us.
“Eumsig-eul jusyeoseo gamsahabnida!” we happily said at the same time which means, thank you for the food in Korean. We also like to watch Korean dramas, so we already know some of their words.
"What time do we go home later?" while eating, I asked Kamala and she stopped eating.
"Afternoon class hasn't even started yet, and look at you, you're thinking about going home already," she answered me with a frown.
"Well, why? I want to spend the night watching movies in your room, reading in your library and eating food cooked by Manang," I replied to her.
"What?" I can see how puzzled she is right now. I almost laughed myself out. Until she realized what I have said to her.
"Okay, then when?" she asked me eagerly while smiling. Kamala loves it every time I was with them, even though all I do there is use the library and the internet, eat, cuddle and talk to everyone in their big house.
"Next month," I joked, and her smile gradually disappeared. It saddened me.
"But because I'm more beautiful than you, tonight until tomorrow," I said and her face quickly brightened.
We high-fives before eating again. We talked about our new classmates while eating. As usual, her answers were just "Maybe not" and "you're being judgmental".
About half an hour later, we finished eating and put away some food. We went downstairs again for our next class. I was still complaining to Kamala on the way down because she was walking so fast, knowing we had just finished eating our lunch, and our room was going to be in Room 207 on the third floor, and we were on the rooftop. It will only take 3 minutes in maximum!
“I really feel like you want me to die early!” when we sat down, I immediately looked at her after speaking.
"You can't die in a hurry just to arrive on time, Chantria," she answered me in a whisper.
"Yes, but I will die of Appendicitis because of you!" I also whispered to her and the latter laughed.
"You are just overreacting, shut up." she answered.
I couldn't answer because our professor had already entered our room. And as expected, we have to introduce ourselves again for his subject. This is not for us, of course, this is for our professor to know our names. Even though it was undeniably boring, we had to listen because, according to our teacher, we had to be able to say five names of our classmates in order to go out later after class.
“Very high school days.” the person next to us and Kamala whispered, and we shrugged at the same time. After about half of the class, Kamala was the next to stand.
"Make it perfect," I whispered to her before she stood up, and she elbowed me secretly, so I laughed.
"Good afternoon everyone! I am Kamala Brei Huxley. It's really nice to meet you all." That was all she said and sat down. She had the shortest words of all who spoke, which is why everyone seemed to be silent after her. That's why I stood up to get rid of the awkward environment around.
"Hello everyone! Chantria Averill Chavez in front of you, majoring in Painting, together with Kamala. I hope to be friends with you all!” I introduced myself enthusiastically before sitting down again.
Everyone's introductions continued until we ran out of time for that subject. Before going out, some people approached Kamala and I to formally get to know each other. It seems that most of our classmates today are kind, so I felt like our junior year will be light and fun.
