Natalie spent hours driving around a small town about two hours outside of Chicago. She’d never thought of herself as a small town girl. When she’d applied for the job as librarian at the private school, she hadn’t expected to even get called for an interview.

Being offered the job had never landed on her radar. As far as she was concerned, she was just doing her due diligence in trying to gain employment.

The interview had gone well and they offered her the position of school librarian. She told the principal she needed some time to think about it, but their current librarian was pregnant and would be going on maternity leave within a few weeks. They wanted Natalie to fill in for the rest of the year and then the position would be hers for the next school year.
