Light.....

"light you have to get ready papa will be here in a minute".my sister Annabel said as she opened the curtains. "leave me alone".I cried but my sister was strong headed. "you need to get ready, I have asked the seamstress to get you new clothes papa will soon arrive with guests".she said as she threw a cup of water on my face. "Annabel".I yelled as I stood up. "This is more like it, Kate will help you dress up so you don't embarrass the family".she said. "Annabel I am older than you talk to me with respect".I said. papa was the one to blame for all this he thinks Annabel is more responsible than me so he put her in charge. "it's so unfortunate that I think you are immature Kate get her dressed and you better not stress her". Annabel said and left. My name is light Williams daughter of Lord Williams, My mama Elizabeth died when having Annabel so papa had to raise us by himself. he was very strict and disciplined papa wasn't the best father but he tried to make us happy. I have two sisters, Maggie the first which got married five years ago, I am the second and Annabel the third. papa made sure we were homeschooled and we are trained on how to fight but only to defend ourselves. I always wanted to explore and travel just like papa but he wouldn't hear it. "ouch it hurts".I said disrupting my thoughts. "my lady the corset has to be fitted properly". Kate said she was our maid. "I hate Annabel".I grumbled. she knows I hate tight dresses and ball gowns. "My lady, lady Annabel loves you".she said. "she depises me".I said, we weren't really best friends but we stick together. "you look beautiful".Kate said smiling. "I look like a pig, this makeup is too much I hate myself and I can't breathe".I complained. "such a horrible thing to say we must go now ".she said as she opened the door. I could see that the dinning table was set. I was so hungry but I dared not eat, instead I went outside to meet Annabel. we always stood by the door to welcome papa, we lived in a cottage that had two rooms, we had a garden and a barn, from our office we could see the seas and Papa's ship. it was almost dusk there was no sign of Papa's ship, I was so tired we had been standing since dawn yet my sister had a straight face. "Annabel I am tired and hungry am not sure papa is coming today".I said. "he will come light, you know papa doesn't disappoint let's just wait".she said. "please am really tired maybe papa had something urgent to do,we can't keep standing here".I complained. "how selfish can you be light, you aren't the only one standing, my legs hurt too but am not complaining papa hasn't stayed out like this ,he hasn't been home in four months". she said. "please calm down and am so sorry Annabel but we can't stay outside like this you know".I said. "I am not going inside".she said. "At least let's change our clothes papa will understand".I said. "you may go".she said. I couldn't leave my sister outside, after a while we went inside, I had my bathe and wore my night gown. I waited for annabel at the dinning table. she came later and we ate. "papa is still alive right".she said as she locked the window, while I laid on the bed. "yes he is alive, papa is a strong man".I said. "we made alot of money from last week sales, so we have to get up early tomorrow".she said as she joined me on the bed. "I can't believe we have been selling raspberry cookies for a month to keep this house running".I said. "life happens,I miss papa".she said. "Don't worry he will be fine".I said and hugged her. Cappleville was a small town and we knew everyone except for visitor who come from the big town, after making the cookies I had to make home deliveries, while Annabel took the rest to the market. "good morning madame Carl".I said as she opened the door. she was our neighbour. "Light you are on time as usual".she said smiling. "yes madame".I said as I gave her the pan. "here please count it".she said as she gave me some coins. "it's complete, I will be back for the pan bye". I said and left. I made the deliveries quickly on my way to market I met Penelope. she used to be my friend but now we don't get along. "light so you now avoid me".she said mockingly. "Penelope I am busy".I said. "look at you, no decent man will take you as his bride, you still don't look like a lady gosh you still wear boots, and these ugly dresses". she said with disgust. "I will take that as a compliment".I said smiling, I knew she wanted to make me upset. " my husband is a sweet heart he got me this beautiful bracelet and necklace,well my husband brother is still unwed I might put in a good word for you,".she said, everyone in town knew she was obsessed about,her husband.they got married last month, such a ugly looking man but he was wealthy. "well Penelope I wouldn't want my children to be ugly,I don't even want to get married at all,stop this obsession of yours it's disgusting don't forget to drop by our stall to get raspberry cookies".I said and left. I got to our stall we had little cookies left. "what took you so long".Annabel said as I gave her the money. "I met the witch but I dealt with her." I said. "every girl is jealous of Penelope but you aren't don't you want to get married to a rich man".she said. "No her husband is disgusting he looks like a pig, he is old enough to be her grandfather I don't want to ever get married".I said and she laughed. "that's a horrible thing to say,he does look old but he is wealthy and in six months you will eighteen papa will eventually get you a man soon".she said. "I hate you Annabel".I said. After we sold all the cookies we went home. George papa's assistant was waiting outside the house. "Sir George what brings you here please come inside".Annabel said as she opened the door. "no Annabel, it's urgent". George said my heart skipped a beat because papa always used to come with George. "is papa okay".I said. "Lord Williams is ill".he said calmly. "Why didn't you bring papa with you who will look after him". Annabel said. "he has been ill for three months now he isn't getting better, but....." "papa has been sick and you didn't send us a letter,he needs to be cared for by us".Annabel said angrily. "calm down Annabel".I said. "lord Williams don't know that am here, your father needs your help".he said. "what do you mean."she said. "he wouldn't tell you but I can't watch him suffer and he isn't the only one suffering, the duke and his family too, one of you has to get married, I will tell everything on our way back you need to pack your bags and come with me".he said. immediately we packed our bags. "Kate please look after the house".I said as I gave her some money. "take care yourself Kate".Annabel said and we hugged her. "I will miss both of you come quickly and be safe, tell the lord I wish him quick recovery". Kate cried. "we will send you a letter please don't cry okay".I said. "fine bye". she said. "we must leave now".George said and we left. I must now look forward to my life ahead......
