They say the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else. That was exactly the mission I had in mind when I walked into fang’s club in a tight leather skirt barely covering my thighs and flimsy lace top that if you look closely, you’d see my n*****s poking out. instead of bawling my eyes out, shoving scoops of ice cream in my mouth while watching sappy romantic movies. I balled my fingers into a fist trying hard to prevent my wolf from lashing out and ripping apart my boyfriend and best friend who were still naked and tangled in the bedsheets. My boyfriend of five years, Matt’s face turned ghostly white, as if all blood drained from his body in an instant and my best friend and roommate, Kate was full on freaking out beside him. if only they knew what I was really capable of, they’d be on their knees begging for their lives. My wolf grunted at the thought. My chest burned with fiery hot anger, my wolf sending violent images to my head. I dug my nails deeper into my palm.
“Kayla, it’s not what it looks like” Matt opened with the ridiculous statement people caught in an act they are not supposed to always use. I scoffed at that. Not giving another chance for explanation, I slammed the door behind me.
The club was not packed like it usually was mainly because it was a weekday but there was fair amount of people with drinks in hand, or half empty. Some with their shirt half way buttoned, their tie haphazardly hung around their necks and there were some jumping around wooing at the singer on stage who sang with a bored expression. He sang the same song every day except for weekends when the bar was filled up and he gets paid more. the cheers got louder as the singer yawned between chorus. If you look closely at the cheering squad you might find a waggling tail tugged between their tail bones, or fangs hidden in their mouths. Fang was a supernatural designed club but because of its secured location and its flexible rules-Fang was hidden in the hills, a couple miles away from civilization, not too far you don’t make it back to town but far, deep in that if someone got murdered, the news wouldn’t make it back to town. None of the humans who would have been compelled to remember nothing by the vampires would be a credible source, any human who’d been entranced by the vampires’ mind-wiping powers would be rendered a useless witness, their memories reduced to nothing more than a faint, forgotten whisper in the darkness of their own minds.
I slammed my purse on the bar table drawing the attention of the bartender who turned and nodded at me in familiarity. “The usual?” he asked eyeing me up and down, probably noticing a change from my usual boring plain top and jeans. I gave him a weak smile. More than my outfit was going to be changing tonight.
“I’m in the mood for something stronger tonight”. I told him. my usual order of old fashioned would not be enough for the decisions planned out in my head. I settled in the chair as the bartender- I believe his name was Jeff was rocking the cocktail shaker back and forth in seasoned synchrony. His beefy arm shaking at the motion. I let my eyes wander around the club. It didn’t take a minute for me to find my target. He was hunched over the bar table, swinging a beer bottle at its nape. He was in a black leather jacket that stretched around his muscled arms. He had on faded jeans and cowboy boots. His green eyes darted around the bar like he was looking for something or maybe someone. When his eyes landed on mine, my heart skipped a beat. My wolf purred. When he got up and looked like he was walking towards me, I swerved my neck just in time to Jeff pouring a swirling liquid of mixture of green and purple in a cocktail, pushing it towards me.
“I wouldn’t drink that if I were you” the drawl of his raspy voice but with smooth baritone hit me before his smell did. The unfamiliar mixture of sandalwood and musk with a tinge of something sweet. How did he get to me so fast. My nose flared, there was also the smell of earth like wet soil and ground leave. Human don’t smell like earth. They smell like salt and brass. And human can’t move that fast. What was he. I gazed up at the towering figure, my heart flipping inside as I watched him settle beside me, his finger pushing the drink away from me.
“They call it the devils alter. It incapacitates werewolves faster than a silver blade to the heart” he said, his green eyes not leaving mine.
“It has wolf’s bane” I responded in realization. glaring down at the ununiformed colored drink in disgust. Why would Jeff give me that. I turned to question Jeff but he was gone and in place of him was a tall, skinny blonde girl in bright make up. Where did Jeff go. I turned my attention back to the green-eyed stranger “How did you know I was a werewolf” I half- whispered, half yelled to him. The singer on stage had now picked pace, aggressively strumming his guitar louder but his voice still missing every beat. He leaned towards me, with a lopsided smile like he wanted to tell me a naughty secret.
“I sniffed you from over there” he gestured to the seat he previously occupied.
“What are you?”
“I’m Adrain” he responded, his lips tugging up in a smile. Adrain. Why does that sound familiar. “Let me buy you another drink. One that won’t painfully rupture your organs” before I could respond he flicked his fingers, calling the attention of a blonde bartender in place of Jeff. I still wondered where Jeff went. The blonde bartender pushed her chest out, pushing her boobs forwards threatening to fall out of her tight shirt. “What can I get you handsome?” she asked in a sultry high-pitched voice that sounded like dragging metal against concrete. She continued “should I get you something hot like you. Want me to accompany it with my number?” she pushed her chest towards Adrain’s face. If she goes lower, her n****e would slip. Adrain ignored the bartender that was blatantly flirting with him.
“Two shots of roundhouse” His mouth moved to the bartender but his eyes stayed on mine.
The bartender pouted her lips in confusion looking from Adrain to me then back to Adrain “You sure you want that?”
Adrain soft features contoured into a hard stare, his lips in a thin line as he turned to the blonde bartender “I said two shots of roundhouse” the look of fear passed the face of the bartender before it was quickly replaced with a smile “Right on”
As quickly as the drink came. I drowned it down my throat without second thought. Big mistake. I started to feel woozy. Every sound sounded like it was playing from a distance. My vision was distorted. Despite the funny feeling, I felt all giddy inside. The pinch of pain throbbing in my chest at the memory of seeing my boyfriend- now ex in bed with my best friend was gone. The nervousness I felt while talking to Adrain was gone.
“Do you want to get out of here?” I heard Adrain ask. I could feel his breathe on me. His strong scent stinging my nose. I nodded without thinking twice or asking where. I didn’t know there were rooms behind the club until Adrain led me to a dingy room with just a small mattress pushed against the wall and a neon light barely lit the room. Before I knew what was happening hot wet mouth slam against mine, his tongue slip through my lips, past my teeth, fighting for dominance with my tongue. Our tongues intertwined and dance around each other while his hand tugged around the hem of my blouse while the other grab my behind, my skirt riding up. My back was pressed flat against the wall,
I let my fingers wander around his toned body, fumbling with the buttons on his black shirt. A groan escaped his throat as his lips met with the nape of my neck. He pulled my blouse over my head exposing my perky rigid breast to him. he stepped back, giving me a once over. The sharp edges of his jaw clenched. the pupil of his green eyes clouded with desire as he take in my half naked body. I didn’t need to see myself to know the curls of my brown hair was a ruffled mane on my head, I could feel the tingling from my swollen lips. His lips had come down hard on mine that his lips grazed my lower lips drawing a bit of blood. I expected him to pull back. Instead, he licked the blood off and deepened the kiss.
“You look hot” he said. His voice husky and raw. Alarm rang in my head ‘you look hot?’. his words coming off lustful and provocative. But what kind of compliment did I expect from a stranger I picked up from the bar. Before I could second guess my decision, I felt my wolf whimper and dance. She wanted this man. I wanted this man. All reasoning out the window, I reached out and ripped off the rest of the buttons off his shirt, fully exposing his muscular chest to me. His eyes widened a bit at my boldness and impatience, His lips spread into a grin, exposing white perfectly shaped teeth. I felt saliva dripping out my wolf’s muzzle. He tipped my chin up going in for another kiss. I let out a moan as his finger flicked at my n*****s. His hands trailed from playing with my breast down my stomach and disappearing through the waist line of my skirt.
“God, you’re so wet” he drawled. My moan got louder. my hair buried in his hair pushing his body closer to mine. He lifted me up, my legs wrapped around his waist, my skirt sitting on my waist. His button came undone, he pulled my panties aside and without hesitation buried himself inside me. I gasped and held onto tighter as he bumped me up and down. My fingers digging into his back, my eyes rolled backwards. he picked up pace. I was barely holding on at this point. My moans were getting louder, my nails digging deeper into his flesh it probably drew blood.
His grip around me got tighter, his mouth was back to working on my neck. He licked the delicate part of my neck that caused shivers down my spine. My wolf groaned in both delight and warning. His teeth grazed my neck. I could feel my wolf snare. The effect of the drink was starting to slowly fade and Adrain’s pace was getting slower. Before I could push him away and tell him I was done, he sank his teeth into my neck.
The scream that came out of me was loud and sharp. The horrifying unison of the sound of pain from me and my wolf. Adrain threw me off him. I was on the floor gripping my neck as I faded in and out of consciousness. Before I completely gave to darkness. I looked at Adrain one last time to see his eyes had changed to bright amber, like the eyes that haunted my sleep. wicked grin playing on his face. strand of my blood ran from his extended canines. My skirt was still wrapped around my waist as my head hit the floor.
Adrain was a f*****g werewolf and he had just bit me. He had mated me.
My own stupid decision will be the reason I die.
