“Damien” I called out. Testing his name on my tongue. I wanted to scream at him. Reach for his jugular and rip out his throat but instead I calmly said “Get your brother so he can undo this and we can be out of each other’s hair.” Was I too weak to get angry now. Damien reached out, brushing his fingers gently against my cheeks “You really don’t feel anything. Do you not feel me at all?” he asked. What was he talking about. Was he crazy. But I couldn’t deny that the feel of his finger against my cheeks sent spark down my spine. Was I crazy. “Kayla Thorne there’s-” The spark dissolved in the air “How do you know my name?” I was realizing it now. I never mentioned my name to Adrain but Damien said my name when he first saw me. How would he know my name. “My brother-” “I never told your brother my name. not once during out short interaction” I looked at Damien, my eyed widened “Your brother didn’t send you. Is he even your brother. thinking about it now, aside the eyes you guys look nothing alike.” I was pulling at the chain aggressively now. Frantically looking around for something to use to protect myself. I had to get out here before something worse happened to me. “Kayla, listen to me” “Who the hell are you?”. I couldn’t rip the chain out no matter how hard I pulled. Was this how Alv felt. Helplessly struggling to save himself as I left him to die. Was the moon goddess finally punishing me for my sins. I shook my head frantically. swallowing the disturbing memories as I directed my pumped-up emotions to Damien. My eyes shooting dagger at him “What the hell do you want from me!?” I screamed. “You’re my mate” Damien screamed back. The first time he broke out of his cool character. His eyes were glazed and bulging. For a moment, my eyes remained widened and my mouth ajar “I’d know if we were mates. I’d feel it” Damien let out a sigh, his fingers running through the root of his hair “Adrain marked you. With me and Adrain being brothers, your wolf bonded with his” “If we are bonded together, that makes Adrain and I mate but my wolf is still poisoned” “Any mate bite that isn’t from your mate will kill you. That fact did not waiver. But right now, you are mated to Adrain which is even more dangerous. Soon his wolf will start to reject yours, the poison will start to spread across your body. Once your wolf shut down. You die” “Why? Did Adrain confuse me for his mate. Is that why he mated me?” “Adrain knew exactly what he was doing” “What do you mean. Wouldn’t the bond affect him too” Damien’s face went cold, his fingers bulging into a fist by his side. He stood frozen in front me but his face didn’t leave mine. His green eyes boring into me. Like they were searching for my soul. “Your bond with him will affect me. He knew that when he approached you” I was even more confused “He knew who I was before he approached me?.” Then I thought about it again “How can I trust what you’re telling me Is true. Not only did you abduct me, you chained me up like some animal. Now you’re claiming to be my mate. How can I believe whatever it is you just told me is true” Without another word, Damien pushed me against the bed climbing on top with speed so fast I could barely react. His chest pressed against mine, strain of his muscular arms showing in his black shirt as he pinned my hands above my head, our face was so close I felt his every ragged breath on my skin. He moved closer. If he moved any closer, our lips would touch. Was he going to kiss me. I wrestled my wrists but Damien only pinned me harder. His face falling to the crook of my neck, his teeth grazing the spot his brother had bitten. I shuddered but I wasn’t sacred. I should be scared. Why wasn’t I scared “You don’t look scared or disgusted” Damien groaned against my ear. He pushed deeper into me. I felt his forming hard on against my light cotton dress. He lightly bit my ear, I struggled against his restrain. swallowing a moan. “Get off me” I hissed His pelvic grind against my groin. I couldn’t help the tiny breathless groan that escaped, I felt Damien smile. He was enjoying this. Purposely torturing me. “Your heart is racing” he said “I can smell your arousal too.” s**t. If he kept going, I was going to lose it. I had to make this stop. I writhed my body under him but I couldn’t push him off. He didn’t even bulge slightly. “Stay still.” Damien whispered. “I’m a man of consent but if you keep moving like that, I won’t be able to hold back.” His eyes were back into looking down at mine. We were so close I saw speck of gold dancing around his bright green eyes. Strands of light-colored hair fell over his face. I was tempted to reach out and pull it away so I could continue to look at his perfect face. God, was he beautiful. that didn’t justify that he kidnapped you. I reminded myself. And I still don’t know for sure if he was my mate. His mouth opened again. “I’m glad I found you when I did. You might be bonded to that bastard but you belong to me, Kayla. You belong to me” his voice harsh, biting edge “And I’ll protect you with my last dying breathe” before I could respond Damien pushed himself off me, I sat up, breathlessly. What the hell was that. He was now at the door. “You haven’t told me why Adrain targeted me or why the vampires were after us” I said still gasping for air “Get some rest” he responded. “But-” Damien cut me off “The chain will be off when you wake up. Like I said it was for your own safety. I wasn’t trying to restrain you. With every-thing you know now, you can decide if you want to stay here or go home. You’re not a prisoner here. I’ll protect you wherever you choose to stay” he turned to look at me one last time “ I will be selfish when I say this, Kayla but hope you stay” The door shut behind him and I was left to ponder my many questions, still constrained to the bed. Alv. I had thought about Alv today. He hadn’t just appeared in the darkest part of my dreams. He had been alive in my head while I was awake. He wasn’t hunting my sleep anymore. Was he punishing me in real life now. I closed my eyes. strand of tears escaped my eyes. My heart ached from within. “I’m sorry” I whispered as I drifted into sleep. Slowly into the horror of the memories that sunk its claw into my flesh. Day Three Damien was a man of his words. Just like he promised, my hand was unbound when I woke up. I raced for the door, reaching its handle. Slowly twisting it. sigh of relief left my lips as it creaked open. I was going to get out of here and I was going to cure my wolf. There had to be a way. There had to be some kind of medicine to cure me. Adrain and his brother can eat a bag of- my head turned at the sound of a loud crash. I slowly descended hall of stairs paneled in dark brick, the rich jeweled toned color adding a hue to its color, as I make my way to a large open space, I caught sight of a crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling, casting a warm inviting glow that drew me deeper. I heard quiet harsh whispers going back and forth. I recognized one of the voices to be Damien but I couldn’t place the second but it sounded familiar. I walked into the glowing room, my eyes going from Damien whose face was red, leaned against a chair, huffing and puffing to-my heart dropped to my stomach. My legs turned into jelly. My mouth closing and opening, trying to form words. It felt like a rope was wrapped around my neck as I gasped for air. “Hello, love” Adrain said in his raspy but smooth- edged voice “Great to see you alive” he lips spread into a grin. The light from the chandelier brightening his green eyes. “Adrain” I whispered. He was in the same outfit as that night except he had swapped his leather jacket for a brown one. His dark hair shorter, almost a buzzcut. Adrain’s smile spread wider “Ow, I’m touched” he placed his hand on his chest dramatically and bow “I left quite the lasting memory. Didn’t I love” he winked at me. My stomach churned. The memory of us together burned my throat like acid. I felt the acrid taste on my tongue. “Stay away from her” Damien snarled. He was suddenly by my side. His eyes in slit, fire burning in his pupils. His canines extended, leaving his lips slightly opened as he looked down his brother who returned his angry expression with an even bigger smile. The sudden shift of life dawned on me. I was standing in the middle of these two men. Two strangers whose decisions has somehow changed the course of my life. rooted my life from within and left me opened. How did I get here. “Easy brother” Adrain cooed. He paced around the room “You know, you should thank me. if not for my little interference, you wouldn’t be together with your precious little mate.” “You left her for dead” Damien was standing in front of me. I watched his rigid back shake with tremor. He was keeping his wolf at bay. I still hadn’t said a word. What was I to say. I was somehow stuck in the middle of what I’m starting to realize is a family feud. Whatever was going on here was bigger than me. Yet. somehow, I was the biggest aspect of it. “Your childish game has gone too far this time. This was between you and me. You had no right to drag her into this” Damien continued. “Game?” Adrain’s smile dropped. He glared at his brother. “This has nothing to do with me” I chipped in. “Whatever this is. Has nothing to do with me. Renounce the mate bond and let me go” Adrain smile returned “She doesn’t know does she” what was I supposed to know. he jabbed at his brother but turned to me “From the look of your face, I’m guessing he didn’t tell you. Here’s the thing, love” I felt panic rise in me as I waited for Adrain. My heart pounding in my chest “There is no cure” He finished
