Chapter 12

Lucy chuckled as Evolet walked with her into the kitchen. "I bet the Council just loved your sarcasm" she said with a smile. Evolet huffed and shrugged her shoulders. "Honestly Lucy, I’ve been apart from this world for so long that I no longer have the capacity to deal with politics. When I'm from, if you have a problem, you fight it out. All this pomp and circumstance is pointless and a waste of time!" she said waving the council off. Lucy nodded and took the cup of blood that Evolet offered her. Nikolai came in the kitchen a few minutes later growling. "Can you believe the nerve of those cretins?" he asked, shaking his head. Evolet shrugged again. She could hear the arguing and fighting going on in the conference room. She wanted nothing more than to go in there and slaughter everyone except Oberon and Vale. They seemed to be the only ones who didn’t act like children, pretending to be grown. They were powerful, dangerous and they knew it. They didn’t need to spread their tail feathers like strutting peacocks. While Lucy was drinking, Evolet moved her consciousness into Lucy to check on the baby. The little boy welcomed Evolet with love and acceptance. "I love you too fierce one." She crooned back to him, and he kicked with pride. Evolet returned to herself and laughed at the look on Lucy's face. She was rubbing her belly. Evolet already knew what kind of shifter he was going to be, but she decided to let it be a surprise. Brone stormed into the kitchen and pulled Evolet into his arms, his lips slanting over hers possessively. Evolet wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back. "Aw come on guys, wait until we leave at least!" Nikolai teased and walked out. When Brone broke the kiss off, he lifted Evolet into his arms and walked out of the kitchen and up to their room. He needed to let off some steam. Evolet moaned as they crashed onto the bed. She was already wet and ready for him. They ripped each other's clothes off and Brone thrust inside of her. Evolet cried out in pleasure as he jackhammered in and out of her. She loved it when he was rough, dominating her. As they climaxed, Brone bit down on her mating mark and she screamed as she orgasmed a second time. Brone groaned in satisfaction and pulled Evolet, so they were both laying on their sides but still connected. "Feel better?" Evolet asked. Brone grunted and then smiled. "I always feel better when we’re together." He replied and Evolet laughed. "I’ve told the council that they can stay for the night before heading out." Brone told her and she nodded. "Something is bothering you my love, tell me." She urged him and Brone sighed. "I don't trust Matthias or Soarn. I don't think Soarn would have the balls to move against us because of you but Matthias has always wanted to rule over the supernatural world. I feel like he's up to something." He admitted to her. Evolet thought for a bit and then hummed. "Oberon and Vale would be powerful allies. Let me deal with Soarn, don't worry Brone, we will defeat this threat." She reassured and he kissed her again. Daren stalked around the pack land, keeping to the trees. The sun had risen, and he smiled. He was going to get revenge on those disgusting leeches for killing his rogues. It wasn’t that he really gave a damn about them, it was that his pride was bruised. That vampire b***h had gotten the best of him, and he couldn’t stand it. Over the last few weeks, Daren amassed another small army of rogues and even had some hunters join him; a very uneasy truce to say the least. Missy was pacing restlessly behind him, and he growled at her to be still. “What is your f*****g problem, Missy?” he demanded when she whined. “The council is here; I can smell them.” She whined softly and Daren smiled. Even better, he thought to himself. He could kill two birds with one stone. Kill the vampires, the pack and as a bonus he could get rid of the council. Then there would be nobody to stop him from ruling. As soon as the sun hit its highest point in the sky he whistled, giving his warriors the signal to go. The vampires would be turned to ash from the sun and the rest would soak the ground with their blood. Screams from the vampire delegation woke Evolet from her nap. Even though she could walk in the sun without harm, Evolet still napped so she could be with her people during the night who weren’t day walkers. She shot upright and moved with preternatural speed down to the first floor. A battle was raging. Rogues were dragging the council vampires and those from her clan into the sunlight. Those who didn’t burn right away were killed by hunter’s arrows. The pack and council were fighting but the pack was still recovering from the first ordeal with the rogues. A snarl tore its way out of Evolet when she saw Lucy fighting, trying to save the vampires who weren’t impervious to the sun. Evolet stepped towards the door, but Kali stopped her. “If you go out there, you’ll expose what you are.” She warned. Evolet hissed and looked around. Soarn was in the dining room fighting with a rogue. It surprised her that he was losing the battle. Soarn swore when the rogue swiped at him with its claws. The rogue laced his claws with the same herb that hunters used to hunt his kind. As the effects raced through his blood, he got weaker. The rogue chuckled darkly and reared his head back to strike. Suddenly the rogue’s body jerked violently, blood soaking the front of his shirt. When the rogue dropped to the floor, Evolet was standing there, her hand covered in the rogue’s blood and his heart still beating in her hand. She dropped the heart and crouched down beside Soarn. Evolet sliced a small cut in her palm, offering it to him. Soarn knew better than to scorn such a gift and opened his mouth. Evolet let a couple drops of her blood fall into Soarn’s mouth before the cut healed. Soarn gasped as Evolet’s ancient, powerful blood raced through his body faster than the poison, destroying it within seconds. All she’d given him was two drops and yet her blood energized him more than draining a human would. Evolet helped him to stand and then she was gone. Lucy moved faster than she ever thought possible as she fought beside Case, Jake and Brone. The attack came out of nowhere, but they weren’t surprised by it. They all knew the rogues would come back for revenge at the very least. Lucy heard Brone growl and saw that his eyes had locked onto the rogue alpha. “Brone be careful!” Lucy mind linked him. Brone raced over to the rogue, who smirked at him. “I am glad you healed Alpha Brone. Now I can kill you in a worthy fight. It felt wrong to kill you while you were so pathetic.” Daren taunted. Brone growled at him, and the fight began. Evolet was helping some of the pack inside the house when she felt a searing pain cascade throughout her whole body, and she jerked in surprise. Evolet rushed through the house and reached the door. She gasped when she saw Brone’s body jerk. A man was standing in front of him smiling along with three more from the treeline holding bows. Feeling her presence, Brone turned around to face her. His chest was littered with arrows, she could smell the burn of the silver from the door. Brone looked right into her tear-filled silver eyes. “I love you my beautiful mate,” she heard through the mate bond before he fell face first onto the ground. The force of his fall forced the arrows deeper into his body. Time seemed to stand still for Evolet. She could hear Brone’s heart slowing down. Rage like nothing Evolet had ever felt before filled her, tinting everything she saw in red. A powerful roar echoed across the battle. “Evolet!” Lucy screamed with her hand outstretched. The rogues she’d been fighting managed to overpower her. Evolet looked around. Lucy was in danger, the wolves were in danger, Brone was near death again and vampires were being burned by the sun. It had to stop, and it had to stop now. Soarn heard a powerful roar and raced to the window to see what was going on. Evolet stood at the door staring at her mate. He was littered with silver arrows and close to death. He couldn’t even imagine how she felt, being so ancient and seeing her mate like that but unable to help because of the sun. A strangled gasp erupted from Soarn’s throat, his heart stuttering when Evolet stepped out of the pack house and into the noon day sun. He expected her to scream in pain. He expected her to burst into flames. Neither happened.
