Chapter 3

Mia immediately took out her phone to call her mother. Claire ran out of the villa, panting. "Gabriel, don't deny it. I saw Evelyn give you a bank card." "You've been freeloading at our house for three years. You must leave now and can't take a single penny with you!" Claire glared at Gabriel, speaking fiercely. "Mom, if he won't cooperate, let's search him!" Mia said impatiently, looking at her fiancé. "Dominic, search him for the bank card!" Without hesitation, Dominic started searching Gabriel's pockets. Claire joined in, helping Dominic search Gabriel. "Claire, although we are not families anymore, do we really need to make this difficult for everyone?" Gabriel didn't back away, just frowned as he spoke. He didn't expect that right after signing the divorce papers, the Browns would become so ruthless, showing no respect at all. After searching Gabriel for a while, they found nothing. "This is crazy. Did he really not take the card?" Dominic said reluctantly. As he spoke, he glanced up and noticed the jade pendant on Gabriel's chest. He suddenly reached out and yanked it off. "Isn't this the jade pendant Evelyn always wore? Why is it on your chest? Did you steal it?" "This is my family's ancestral treasure, give it back!" Gabriel's face darkened. He could go without taking any money, but the ancestral treasure had to be returned. "Ancestral treasure? Must be worth a lot then?" Dominic's eyes lit up. "Gabriel! You've freeloaded at Mia's house for three years. This jade pendant will cover your board. Mia, let's go!" "Right, don't let him take it." Claire nodded. Dominic gave Mia a look, intending to walk back into the villas. "Stop!" Gabriel grabbed Dominic's wrist and said in a deep voice, "Give me back the pendant!" "Ah! It hurts! Let go!" Dominic cried out in pain, feeling like his wrist was about to break. "Give. It. Back. To. Me!" Gabriel shouted each word. "Damn it! I'd rather throw it away than give it to you!" Unable to break free, Dominic grew desperate and threw the pendant into the garbage bin by the entrance. Thunk, plop! The pendant landed right in the foul-smelling garbage bin. Gabriel watched in shock, his face turning pale instantly. This was his family's ancestral treasure and his greatest attachment in life! "How dare you lay hands on me! This is humiliation!" Dominic shook his sore wrist smugly while continuing to curse under his breath. Gabriel clenched his fists in anger, his knuckles cracking audibly. Slap! Gabriel finally snapped and struck Dominic across the face in anger. The force spun Dominic around twice before he crashed heavily to the ground. He was so dizzy he couldn't even stand up. "You bastard! If your father didn't teach you manners, I will!" Gabriel grabbed Dominic by the hair, yanked him up from the ground, and delivered a series of resounding slaps across his face. Slap! Slap! Slap! Slap! With each crisp sound, Dominic's face quickly became bruised and swollen, blood trickling from his mouth—a pitiful sight. "How dare you hit Dominic? I'll kill you!" Claire shouted, preparing to help. "Get lost!" Gabriel turned and roared, his demon-like crimson eyes making Claire back away in fear. Claire never imagined this usually gentle and mild-mannered man could be so terrifying when angry. Those eyes looked like they could devour someone. "Help! Someone's being attacked!" After coming to her senses, Claire screamed into the neighborhood. Soon, a crowd of onlookers gathered, including passersby and two security guards. "Mrs. Brown, what happened?" The security guards, who knew Claire, immediately took her side. "Samuel, arrest this man, now!" "He dared to hit my family—he must pay for this!" Claire commanded with false bravado. "Isn't this the live-in son-in-law of the Brown family? That loser? How dare you assault someone here? You brought this on yourself!" The guards pulled out their electric batons and advanced toward Gabriel. They knew this was the perfect opportunity to get in good with the beautiful CEO's mother. A good impression could mean more benefits from the Brown family. "What are you waiting for? Hit him!" Seeing the guards hesitate, Claire stomped her foot and shouted at them. The two guards quickly raised their batons and moved to strike Gabriel. "Stop!" A loud voice cut through the crowd. A girl in a red dress, with a perfect figure and striking beauty, emerged from a Rolls-Royce, flanked by two bodyguards. Her bright eyes and flawless face captivated everyone with every graceful movement she made. "Wow, she's gorgeous!" The onlookers murmured in awe, their eyes glued to the girl. She was an extraordinary stunner. "Gabriel, are you alright?" Ignoring the crowd's admiring stares, the girl walked straight to Gabriel after stepping out of the car. "Yeah, Emily, I'm fine." Gabriel's fierce expression softened into a slight smile. "Emily? Is she Mr. Henry Patel's daughter?" "Oh my God! Why is this stunning beauty here?" The crowd exchanged shocked glances. Emily was a name they all recognized. She was the daughter of the wealthiest man in this city, known for her beauty and family background, and she was also incredibly capable. At twenty-three, she took over the Patel Group and became its CEO. In just three years, she had propelled the Patel Group to the top of the business world, making it a Fortune 500 company, and earning her the title of the most successful businesswoman in Calonia. "Gabriel, get in the car. I'll take care of this." Emily glanced at her bodyguards, who immediately advanced with batons toward the security guards. Despite being outnumbered, their commanding presence forced the guards to retreat, their faces pale. Everybody knew that the Patel family's bodyguards were elite. "Gabriel, please get in the car." With no one daring to intervene, Emily smiled and motioned for Gabriel to enter the car. Gabriel turned to Dominic and said, "Pick up the jade pendant!" When Dominic hesitated, Gabriel dragged him to the trash can. "Get it out!" Terrified of Gabriel and bewildered by Emily's respectful treatment of him, Dominic reached into the trash can but couldn't reach the pendant. Gabriel lifted him by one leg and dunked him headfirst into the trash. "God! It stinks!" Dominic screamed, flailing his limbs in desperation. When Dominic finally retrieved the jade pendant from the stinky pile of garbage, Gabriel pulled him out and used Dominic's white shirt to clean it. "This shirt cost over 10,000 dollars, and you ruined it," Dominic complained. "You brought it on yourself," Gabriel replied calmly, pocketing the clean pendant before getting into the car with Emily. At that moment, no one dared to stop them. "Hey! What are you doing? Are you just letting them leave like that?" Claire yelled at the security guards in frustration as she snapped back to reality.
