Chapter 1: The sweetest sound
"The sweetest sounds I'll ever hear are still in my head."
"She's starting with that song tonight," Logan, my wolf says. Logan and I decided to run to Crystal Lake this evening to hear our beautiful mate sing from the other side. For the past 8 years, we've heard our mate sing every night at Crystal Lake. Though we have no idea who she is. When a wolf turns 16, they are now able to sense their mate's presence. In those days, I wasn't big on mates. As soon as I turned 21, I began to hear a beautiful sound coming from Crystal Lake.
Since then, I've come down here to the lake to listen to it.
"Hey Omar. Where are you bro?" Shawn asked telepathically. "At the lake," I replied. "She's singing again." Shawn sighs. "You know your parents hate it when you're down there." I roll my eyes. "I don't care."
"Well you better bring your ass back to the house before we take off to the mates' ball." Shawn spat. "I'll be there," I groaned. "Don't start bro because you a whole alpha son and you are running off to see a swan princess that doesn't even exist." Shawn said, irritated. "I'm mad you know the Swan Princess movie." I laughed. "I mean low key it ain't a bad movie. But hurry up and get back here so I don't have to deal with your mama." Shawn tells me.
However, before I left, I looked at the lake again. My mate stopped singing but I was hoping I could catch a glimpse of who she is on the other side. However, she didn't show. So I'll try again tomorrow night. I had to hurry and race back to the mansion. My mother was going to give everyone grief if I wasn't there getting ready.
To be honest, I hate the mates' ball. All those stuck up girls that flock only to the Alphas' sons. Not really caring if they were mates or not. And then, my friend Rory, she's an Alpha's daughter. So many mutts will try to ask for her hand. And I hate that too. I want to find my mate the same way my parents found each other. But the only way to do that is to get to the other side of the lake.
I dashed into the mansion as fast as I could without anyone seeing me. When I got up to the second floor, I saw my sister, Macy at my bedroom door. "There you are bro," she said. "Hurry up and get ready." I nodded and walked into my room. I took off my running clothes and quickly hopped into the shower.
The hot water felt great on my body. My muscles have been sore from all the training. And as soon as this ball is over, I'm off to bed. "Or we could ask Rory to come upstairs with us," Logan says. "That would be nice but we're looking for our mate this time." It's been long enough. I want to find her. And I want to make her mine as soon as possible. I'm the oldest of the Crystal Light pack. And I'm next in line to take over as Alpha. And I want my Luna by my side.
"We might find our mate tonight." I said. Since I hardly pay attention to the ball, something tells me that tonight is going to be different. "If we don't I want Rory to come up to our room." Logan demanded. Whoa. I thought. Logan has never acted this way about Rory before. I mean, she is beautiful. And I'm not going to lie, I've been daydreaming and dreaming about her as well. And more often than not, I get rock hard when I think about her.
Like right now my nut sack just became extremely full from thinking about Rory. Before I got out of the shower, I grabbed my d**k and began stroking. Slowly. Just picturing her in my mind bouncing her juicy ass upon me. And screaming my name. I was almost there until I heard a knock outside the door. Damn it. I thought. "Who is it?" I shouted. "It's me man," Shawn said. "I'll be out in a second," I told him. And I quickly relieve myself so Shawn won't see my rock-hard d**k. And I can finally get dressed.
After putting on my black button down shirt, my gray slacks were next, my black socks and then my shoes. My hair was the last thing I needed to do. I let it grow out because Rory said she liked it long. And so I placed my raven hair in a ponytail. With a quick look in the mirror, I was satisfied with my appearance. I grabbed my keys and wallet and headed out.
The cars were ready and of course I got in the car with my boys. Despite my parents' wishes, there were too many of us in the family to fit into one car. So my siblings and I drove in separate cars. And plus we didn't want to ride with our parents anyway.
The ball wasn't too far. It was at least 45 minutes away. Springfield was deemed too far away for this year's ball by the hostesses. Therefore, setting it up here in Englewood was better. That way every pack can meet right in the middle. In my car, I had my future beta Shawn, my Delta Troy and my Omega James. The four of us grew up together and were myride-or-die crew. Shawn was 29 like me. He's about 6'2" has short brown hair with dark blue eyes and golden olive skin. Shawn is a shamanic wolf. Therefore, he is capable of contacting spirits as well as healing deadly diseases or poisons. Several days ago, he received the power of astral protection.
Troy aka Luke Cage is just how you imagine him. And yet only younger. 28 to be exact. He's tall like Luke Cage, dark skinned, strong, bullets hardly pierce his skin, and he's bald like Luke Cage. The only difference is that Troy is a hybrid. His mother is a mermaid and his father is a wolf. And his eye color was that of a cryan color. Last but not least, little James. He's actually a twin. While his younger sister is a tad bit brown, James is a yellow bone with short black hair, golden grey eyes, and he specializes in possession and telepathy.
They're all hoping to find their mates this year at the ball. And something tells me they will this time.
"Prince Derek made his way to see Odette again," Shawn teased. Troy laughed. "Again?" "Man you really think this girl is your mate, huh?" I nodded. "I know she is," I boasted. "But you can't be sure because you haven't visibly seen her," Troy noted. "I can't explain it but I know she's my mate." "When she sings my heart skips a beat. The songs she sings I can feel her presence and it's undeniable." Troy shook his head and smiled. "You don't have to explain it. I believe in fate."
"And that's why I also suspect that your mate might be a siren." Troy added. "Oh yeah? How do you figure?" I asked. "Well if you hear her singing and you're not falling to your death that means she wants to mate." Troy explained. "That's how must sirens do it."
"Or that could be a mermaid's call," James suggested. "Naw, if it was a mermaid, he'd be hearing the call of the sea along with her song," Troy said.
"Who cares?" Logan scoffed. "Siren or not if we don't find out who she is, we'll take Rory as our chosen mate."
I rolled my eyes. "Yes I know I heard you the first 100 times." I said. "But we have to think about Rory. And her feelings. She might not agree with us making her our chosen mate." Logan sighed. "I know but I have this feeling," Logan paused. In a whisper "the sweetest sounds I'll ever hear are still inside my head."
She's singing again! I thought. So that must mean she's close. And she's coming to the ball! I pumped on the gas a little to head towards the sound. It made the guys a little nervous, but they didn't question it. It will be less than 30 minutes when we get to the ball. As I parked, I could still hear her voice as I stepped outside the car.
"She's here!" Logan purred. I can't believe it. Tonight, I'm finally going to find my mate.
