I ventured into the park. I didn’t know what I was doing there, honestly. I was looking for answers, but I had no plan beyond that. I saw Cedar disappear through there.

I couldn’t be sure he wasn’t involved.
My phone rang. I paused and fished it out of my back pocket.
“Oakley!” I yelled into the phone. “How could you go silent on me? Please tell me you’re better.”
“I… I’m fine. I’ve been fine.”
I paused. I couldn’t continue this hunt anymore. Despite Cedar’s scent lingering in the air, my best friend was more important.
“Will you tell me what happened?” I begged.
