On my way to reclaim my car, my phone rang, but it was an unknown number. The options were few for who it could be, but it wasn’t good.
“Who is this?” I demanded.
“Very feisty little sis,” Chase said.
I paused and breathed a sigh of relief. “Chase… I haven’t heard from you in ages.”
“I had to lie low. Mrs Dare was on my ass for what you did, Josie.”
“Your old lady is a psycho! She wanted me to kidnap a little girl.”
“Not a little girl, Jo. Her granddaughter.”
“Chase, that little girl needs her father. Her own mother abandoned her. Mrs Dare didn’t mention that her daughter was still alive.”
