Chapter 20: Truly And Madly In Love

2204 Words
That entire week I hadn't seen Lucas due to the fact that I was working nightshift and he was busy at work the whole day. We texted but it was in between my naps in the day and when ever I could at night. I took Dean on his offer for a roommate and found myself taking boxes over to his place in the day. Come Saturday morning all that was left was my bed, desk and a few outfits. Today was the day I would be moving out and Drake wasn't so happy, but I did tell him that me living with them wasn't a permanent thing from the beginning. Dean's apartment wasn't any different from Drake's, the only thing that was different was that it was down the road from the hospital. It had two bedrooms, the main suite which was his with a bathroom for himself, my room was much bigger than the one I had at Drake's place and the bathroom down the hall. I walk into my bedroom on Saturday morning to find Lucas laying on my bed with a bunch of pillows behind his head. "Where's all your stuff?" He asks with a frown and I roll my eyes. "Hello to you too Lucas." I snap and I am going to blame the night shift for my mood. Friday night's at the hospital aren't as breezy as the rest of the nights. We had many drunk patients being rolled in due to accidents and fights, it's safe to say that I am beyond tired. "Come here." He reaches out for me as I approach him and pulls me to him. I hop over him and onto my soft comfortable bed as he wraps his arms around me and I place my head on his shoulder. "I'm moving in with Dean." I say before reaching up and kissing him. He pulls away from me and gives me a wary look. "Why? I thought you were happy living with Drake." He sits up and I pull away from him before rolling onto my back and looking up at the ceiling. "I am, but this was never a permanent living situation and I told him that." I say with a smile and he nods as his phone buzzes in the pockets of his jeans. My eyes drift to the screen when he pulls it out and I see the name Chanel flash across the screen. I give him a curious look but he doesn't catch it as he stands to his feet and walks out the room. I grab my phone and find the number for the moving truck company to hire a truck to move my stuff. When I step into the kitchen after hiring a tuck I see Drake making breakfast with Daniel and Nicolas sitting at the counter. "Madison." Daniel announces and I give him a smile. "Hey guys." I grab a water from the fridge and begin to wonder where on earth did Lucas go? "So we hear you're moving." Nicolas announces and I give him a smile. "Speaking of that, can you boys help me move a few things today? The moving truck is supposed to come at around twelve." Both the boys nod and Drake gives me a look. "You're moving your stuff today?" He asks as I take a sip of my water. "I've actually already moved most of my stuff. It's just my bed and desk and a few more boxes." Lucas walks into the kitchen and offers everybody a hello before walking over to me. "I need to go to The Saffron for a meeting, text me Dean's address and I'll drop by later." He leaves me with a brief kiss and a goodbye for the others. Something is going on with him because he just lied to me. "We should go out tonight to celebrate." Daniel offers and honestly that doesn't sound like such a bad idea. I have had a hell of a week and a drink wouldn't sound so bad. "You guys mind if I invite my friend Jake?" I ask as I pull my phone out my pocket and all three boys shake their head in sync. "Where's Dean?" Lucas announces as he takes a seat at the counter. The kitchen is definitely much bigger because its an open plan kitchen and living room. The only thing missing is Drake's HD TV, Dean doesn't have one in the lounge because his plasma screen is in his bedroom which he uses for his video games. I don't mind because I barely watch any television, but the living room does have a huge surround sound system and a crap load of music in CD cases. "Night shift." I say with a smile and he nods. I've decided to make myself some chicken nuggets because I'm supposed to meet the boys at The Saffron at 10 and its already 8 and I'm not ready. "So you're going to tell me where you really were today and try not to lie to me this time." I scatter some chicken nuggets on a tray and pop it into the oven. "What are you talking about?" He says with an uncomfortable laugh. "You underestimate me Lucas Parker." I say as I walk over to him and he turns around in his seat. "I've known you for three months and in those three months I know when you're lying to me and when you're not." I wrap my arms around his neck and he pulls me closer to him. "Now the truth please." I demand. "I went to meet an old family friend, she had some business with my father." His eyes don't meet mine when he lies to me and that's how I know he's lying. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." I brush my lips against his and pull back. "But you also don't have to lie to me." I say with a smile and he rolls his eyes. "You know it's been three months and I haven't met your mom as yet." His words pierce right though me and it takes me a second to realise that I never told him about my mom. "That will be hard to do considering the fact that she's dead." His eyes soften and he wraps his arms around me tighter. "You never told me." He says with a sad smile. "I didn't, she died when I was nineteen and I don't talk about her much." I offer him a smile and he decides to drop it because he can see that it's something I don't want to talk about it. I arrive at The Saffron through the back entrance with Lucas’ hand in mine. I managed to find a black high waist skirt, which hugs my body and is mid thigh length which I paired with a red off shoulder floral top that reaches the top of the skirt. "I need to do something real quick. I'll find you." He places a kiss on my cheek as he disappears into his office and I walk down the hall. I carefully walk up the stairs with my black heels and find Drake along with Nicolas and Daniel at a table. Jake hasn't arrived as yet and when I find a spot next to Drake I realise that they are all already drunk. "Drunk before ten I see." I say with a smile as I check the time on my watch. "Where's your boy?" Drake ignores my words and scans the surroundings behind me. "He's in his office." I roll my eyes as Daniel hands me a shot of vodka. "And he's not my boy." "How does it feel dating a millionaire?" Nicolas asks with a laugh as I down my shot. "He's not a millionaire." I snap and he let's out a scoff. "Your boy is not a millionaire." Daniel says with a laugh. "I handle his brothers accounts and believe me when I say your boy is a billionaire." I knew Lucas came from money, I just never thought about it being so much money. I try to hide my surprise when the words leave his lips, but I have to admit I am shocked by his words. "But you already knew that right?" He teases with a smirk and I shake my head. "His money is none of my business." I say before downing another shot. A few girls who know Drake join us and it's not long before our small group of four becomes a group of eight. I'm on the dancefloor, nine shots of vodka in me and Nicolas in front of me with a smile on his face. I leave the dancefloor when I realise that it's been over an hour since Lucas said he would join us and he hasn't. I slip into the hallway with my phone in my hand and when I push open his door he's sitting at his table with his head in between his hands. His eyes meet mine as I close the door behind me and lock it before giving him a look. "I'm sorry. I got caught up with some work." He apologises over the light pounding music and I place my phone onto his desk before walking over to him. "It's fine." I slide onto his lap with my legs on either side of him and his hands move to roam my waist. "What's wrong?" I take his face in my hands when I see the worry in his eyes. "It's just business." He pulls away from me and leans his head back against the back of his chair. "I just wish I could leave it all behind and go somewhere far, just for a little." He says and my heart shatters as the words leave his lips. The pain is evident in his tone as he speaks and I grab his face before placing my lips against his. He moans against my lips and I pull away a few seconds later. "I have an idea." I say and he gives me a curious look. "My uncle has a cabin. Not too far away from here, I'll take a few days off and we can go there for a little." I offer and he gives me a smile. "Say yes and we'll leave tomorrow." I whisper against his lips. "Yes." He says and captures my lips with his. It was in this moment that I realised I was truly and madly in love with Lucas Parker. Three days, three months or three years, it didn't matter because this man owned my heart and there isn't anything I wouldn't do to never see the pain in his eyes ever again. It wasn't hard to get a few days off because Jamie and Dean offered to check up on my patients for me. I managed to score the keys for the cabin easily from Peterson and he made me promise to come to dinner real soon. Lucas decided to meet me there because he needed to pack a bag and drop off Hunter's stuff at Christopher's place. It gave me time to come up with a perfect plan for us. I spent Sunday gathering up my stuff and going to the supermarket to get some food, I can't imagine Peterson having much at the cabin considering the fact that him and my aunt haven't been there in a while with the kids. The cabin is just as I remembered it when I was younger. I used to come here over the summer holidays with my mom and I was happy to trade in the California heat for the cold. It was back when my mother and I were happy and nothing else in the world mattered. I light a fire at the fireplace and take off my coat when Lucas texts me telling me that he's on his way. The macaroni and cheese just got out of the oven when Lucas pushes open the door and steps through into the living room. His hazel brown eyes meet mine and I offer him a smile as he places his duffel bag onto the couch and closes the door behind him. It's like all the air was sucked out of the room when our gazes locked, my heart started to beat a little faster and even though it's been less than twenty four hours since I've seen him I still missed him. "I swear I saw a hot tub at the back when I parked my car." He teases as I wrap my arms around him and brush my lips against his. "There is one." I pull away with the light taste of mint on my lips from him. "But first we should eat dinner and I have to show you something." I say with a smile and he gives me a curious look. "Did you bring me out into the woods to kill me?" He teases and it reminds me of our first date. "If I wanted to kill you you'd be dead already." I spin around and take his hand in mine before leading him into the kitchen.
