Chapter 8

-This will be a short chapter- Draco ran outside and yelled for a nurse. At that, about 5 nurses ran in. “What’s going on?” One of the nurses asked. “I don’t know, her heart rate was increasing, and she grabbed on to her chest and head, like she was in pain.” Raiden couldn’t keep his eyes off her. He was breathing heavily. He couldn’t lose her. Everything is falling apart at home with Lisa and now with his brother. He couldn’t lose her. She was his constant. “Sir, you need to back up and give us room.” Draco grabbed Raiden, but he broke from his grasp and moved himself. Then, to everyone’s surprise, the heart monitor changed to a flat line. Her heart stopped. “OUT NOW!” One of the nurses yelled and motioned for them to leave. “I’m not going anywhere. You leave, I’m not.” Raiden said, pointing to Draco. Draco glared at Raiden but he still left. Sheets were thrown off the bed and on to the floor. Raiden pressed his back against the wall, his whole body trembling. “No pulse.” Yelled one nurse. “I can’t get a blood pressure.” The doctor ran in and yelled, “Get the crash cart!” A cart next to Raiden was yanked and shoved to Jasmine’s side. The nurses attached electrode pads to Jasmine’s bare chest. Raiden held his breath and clenched his fist, knowing that he couldn’t do anything. The sound of blood sounded in his ears, with the sound of the mechanical screech the monitor gave out. “Clear.” Someone called out and everyone backed up from the bed and cart. The air snapped with tension. Jasmine’s body twitched as electricity went through her body trying to restart her heart. “Dammit no response.” The doc yelled. “Let’s give it to her again but charge it more.” Raiden lost all feeling in his body, he was shaking and cold. The machine zapped again and Jasmine’s body jumped from the bed as electricity went through her again. A small but faint beep was heard from the machine. “Jasmine, can you hear me?” Yelled one of the nurses, and she started clapping by her ear. But Jasmine didn’t respond. “Call her, keep calling her name. She might respond to you.” The nurse said, mentioning to Raiden. “Jasmine…Jaz baby.” Raiden yelled into her ear. “Listen to me. Please, Jasmine, wake up. You can’t leave me, you hear me…you can’t.” Raiden’s heart was breaking. He couldn’t live life without her. It might have been a short amount of time they have known each other, but she had become his whole world. “Alright, we got a steady heartbeat and blood pressure.” The doc said. The doctor took a deep breath of relief. He never liked losing any patients, but he came to care for this family. Raiden looked up at the monitor and never in his life was he happy to see a f*cking green line rise and fall. He fell to his knees, letting go of the bed railing, noticing his knuckles were white, with how tight he was holding on. “That was too close for comfort.” One of the nurses said as she patted Raiden’s shoulder and left. “Damn Raiden, that was close. Make sure nothing bothers her, so this doesn’t happen again. Now I’m letting in only one person at a time. Obviously, that doesn’t count for you.” The doctor fixed Jasmine’s gown and covered her with a blanket. He then walked toward Raiden, patted his shoulder and walked out the room. For 30 minutes, Raiden was on his knees holding one of Jasmine’s hands, his forehead resting on their hands. He tried to stand up but fell back down. His legs had fallen asleep, but they also hurt like hell from being in the same position for so long. As he got up and moved the chair closer to Jasmine, Lisa walked in. “Hi, I brought you food and I sent Draco home.” Lisa said, putting the food down and walked to his side. She went to place her hand on his shoulder when he stood up and turned toward her. “What are you doing here, Lisa? You didn’t seem to care about anything but yourself these past weeks, so what do you want?” Raiden moved toward Jasmine and sat on her bed. “I do still care about you. Don’t be this way, we have been together for so long.” Lisa said, trying to pout. She was frustrated herself, she just got into an argument with Draco about him sleeping with other women, but also about them. Draco broke up with her, saying he couldn’t betray his brother anymore. “You need to leave. There is only one person allowed at a time in this room now. So just go Lisa.” Raiden turned from her. He was tired of arguing with her. It seemed that every time they tried to talk it would turn into an argument. He heard her sigh and heard her footsteps retreat, then heard the door close behind her. Raiden took a deep breath, walked to the food and trashed it. For the past weeks, Raiden and Lisa's relationship has been beyond rocky. Lisa constantly complained about Jasmine, about how much time he was there at the hospital, how much time he spent with Jasmine on a regular basis. He tried to comfort her and assure her that nothing was happening. He would never betray her nor his brother. But Lisa would nitpick everything Raiden would do. She started putting him down emotionally and mentally. She would make little comments on everything he did and make him question everything and second guess himself. He didn’t know what to do anymore. Fortunately, as relief for both of them, Lisa went to stay with her family this month when Jasmine was in the hospital.
