Warm Hug

RHEA'S POV ~ "WHAT?!" dad got up with a mixed expression of anger and shock, he slammed the exam results on the dining table making some of the soup on the table spill a bit, his face was red in anger, I didn't feel brave enough to even look up at him, but i could feel his angry gaze peering into my skin, i felt like crying as my eyes were glued to the cream colored floor,I can't lie i sure did expect such a reaction from my parents when they find out i failed a very important scholarship exam that would have covered all my academic expenses for the whole of my academic years in Silverdale College, and considering the fact that he paid half his yearly salary to get the form available to me, I deserved it after all i was no doubt the brightest child who would easily get the scholarship form, but due to the corrupt and racial practices of Silverdale High, it was almost impossible for a brown person to get such scholarships even though he's as intelligent as Einstein, so you had to bribe a lot of lecturers and top people in the school with a lot of money,no doubt he was angry I failed, he had all the right to be angry."What have you done?!!" he seemed to want to cry "Honey, calm down" I could hear mum's voice as she stood next to dad softly touching his arm, her voice was filled with so much pain and disappointment, I had to bite her lips to stop myself from crying, but could not hold back the tears anymore, I looked down at my open palms as drops of tears automatically fell on them. "Don't tell me to calm down,ask your daughter exactly what she has done,did she know how important that exam was to our entire family?" dad's voice was filled with so much pain as he stared daggers at me, I couldn't see him, but I could feel his anger "Rhea, is there anything you'd like to say about this?" mum said referring to the exam results of the scholarship exam that would foretell how my entire future would look like, I couldn't bring myself to reply, I felt so broken, so disappointed in myself for failing. I felt so stupid. "YOU BETTER ANSWER YOUNG LADY!" dad's voice echoed in the room sending chills down my spine, i raised my head up to meet dad's gaze for the first time since the conversation begun, I instantly regretted that decision,he seemed really angry which made her me anxious, but the hurt in his eyes made me feel even more anxious. "I-i-i don't know"I managed to say before breaking down in tears again, "I did my very best and I could almost swear I got everything right"I was now crying profusely as my body jerked furiously "Rhea"mother had a warm look on her face,"calm down, please stop crying. it's okay"my mother said trying to console me, dad suddenly snapped all his bottled up anger was invested In his voice as he spoke. "It's OKAY?!! no it's not okay, your useless disgrace of a daughter has just ruined everything for us, she applied for THE most prominent and expensive college hoping she'd get a scholarship but look what her pathetic self has done"he turned to mom," and you say it's okay? where do you think I'd get 20000 dollars to pay for her tuition and orther expenses? WHERE??!"he then turned back to me," I don't have a dime to send you to send you to college, if it's not on scholarship, then no college for you!" I gasped at the revelation, my heart seemed to squeeze in my chest as i tried to hold back the next wave of tears, I looked up to dad with teary eyes not being able to say anything, mom seemed even more shocked, I too was in a state of shock for a while. "H-honey, you promised..." she seemed to want to cry too "I DON'T CARE WHAT I PROMISED!" he shouted, making mom flinch surprised at the volume of his voice."I HATE YOU, AND THIS PATHETIC EXCUSE OF A DAUGHTER!I HATE THE BOTH OF YOU! I WISH I NEVER HAD HER!" his speech was followed by a slap across the face, he looked at mom surprised filled, even I was very surprised because i had never seen mom stand up to dad before. Dad stared at mom's face for a while, "HAHAHA" his maniac laughter echoed in the kitchen sending major chills down my spine but mum didn't seem to even flinch, the laughter was supposed to sound mocking but it had so much pain inside that I felt a bit sorry for dad,he looked so pained. "I've tolerated you for long enough, I can take no more of your crazy behavior and major mood swings, I'm done!" mum's voice broke a little as she tried to keep herself from crying. She was so brave to stand up to dad while I on the orther hand just sat there crying like a lame puppy, mom then turned to me, "Rhea, I'm leaving, I'm sorry"the sadness in her voice made my heart feel heavy Dad had a look of shock on his face, the reality of the situation finally hit him, even I didn't quite get the gravity of the situation at first I nodded and watched as mom walked away, dad seemed devasted, shock and anger filled his eyes as he stared at me with hatred but it soon changed into something quite unfamiliar, a weird expression in his eyes it also disappeared as he sighed and walked away. I couldn't help but sigh in frustration, a wave of guilt washed over me again as hot tears stung my eyes, what had i done? Now mom is leaving and it's all my fault, and now I won't get a chance to go to college, and everything's just gotten so damn worse. I left to my room and locked the door, first thing's first, I have to inform my best friend of exactly what just happened. I quickly crawled up on the bed and texted Regina WHAT?!!"Regina was almost shouting into the phone, " what do you mean he says you can't go to Silverdale, you got accepted which is a BIG deal, and what's with the my mom's leaving text? Why's she leaving??!" I narrated the entire story to her and did facetime with her, we talked for what seemed to be hours. Regina:You have to find a way to come with me, we're besties after all, you might die without me by your side!" she was of course exaggerating Rhea:I failed the exams, don't you get it?! Rhea was getting a bit annoyed Regina:What, you FAILED?!? Regina sounded shocked. Rhea:ugh, that's what I said before!"Rhea sighed, " things are not so well for my family nowadays, you know that! And Silverdale is very expensive!" Regina:I know how you can make quick money, enough to pay for tuition and more other things! "she sounded very enthusiastic. Rhea;Really? What's that?" Regina:I'll tell you tomorrow, meet me at my house and we'd go to the place together" Rhea:at about what time? Regina: I'll text it to you later, babe. Byeeeee The line went dead and I sighed, if this 'quick way' to make money is really as quick as she says then I'd do it for sure I sighed and looked out the window, all the street lights had gone off with the moonlight as the only aid of light, suddenly i caught the gaze of someone from the orther house, there stood my creepy hot neighbor, standing by the window, he had a weird look on his face and was just staring at me, I felt too tired to bother about it, just the. I heard a knock on my door, it was dad. "Look, Rhea, I'm extremely sorry for what happened earlier" he looked sad for a second "it's okay dad, it's fine" Dad smiled warmly and hugged me, just then he gave me a bowl of soup "You couldn't have dinner so...." I smiled and hugged him, almost spilling the tea, "Thanks alot dad" dad then left, after drinking the soup I instantly fell asleep
