Behind me, Odelia murmured.
I said, "My things."
"Shush," I said. "Once they're done, assist me pick an outfit for supper tonight. I don't want to wind up on looking ragged.”
My stuff is temporarily in an additional bedroom. Odelia and I picked out a traditional black outfit for myself .
The only things I found interesting were the dusty grand piano in the fourth-floor parlor and the unusual bookcases in the master bedroom.
The home was immaculate and ready for a showing, except for the sealed basement.
Luke wouldn't want Odelia to know if he had a s*x dungeon.
Odelia disagreed. "Ugh," she muttered, pulling the basement door doorknob. "He's strange. Who doesn't have home decor? Who locked the door? This is like that messed-up fairytale when the girl marries a guy with all his damaged wives chained behind a door. "
She kicked the door dismissively. "It's almost 7." she looked at the watch" Prepare.”
Tonight, would I be filmed? What would I tell Luke?
Odelia's suggestion made me uneasy. Dinner seemed awful.
Odelia touched my shoulder awkwardly. She responded, "It's not that horrible."
"He slices me up and places me with his other wives?"
“Relax. You're funnier living than dead.”
Behind us, Luke King entered the entryway.
After a moment of silence, I realized Luke and Odelia had never met and I should introduce them. “Uh. Odelia Mac is my personal assistant. Luke King is... husband.”
Luke walked forward and smiled.
"Hi, Miss Mac. Please call my personal assistant to discuss pay."
Odelia said, "No.You. Tomorrow. Office.”
Luke stopped, then continued. "Very good," he said, pulling a business card from his jacket. "Call in the morning and we'll fit you in."
"Good," she said, removing the card from his fingers. Then she hugged me.
"Joyce, see you tomorrow."
She ignored me and rushed through the gallery,. After she left, we were alone.
Luke admired her handshake. He responded, "She may have injured my finger."
“And since she's my assistant, I'm the one that matters.”
I put my palm on my forehead and relaxed.
"No, I'm nervous. We're going out tonight, and... We haven't even... married.”
He squinted. "Yes," he said. "Do you mind? ”
He was laughing. He responded, "Well." "I live at the workplace more than here," he said, looking around as though for the first time. "Personal touches are lacking."
"Have you been attempting to go into the basement?" he said.
I figured you had a s*x dungeon.
This amused him. When he laughed, he always seemed surprised, as if I'd sparked something unusual in him. He shook his head, gagging. He answered, "No. No s*x dungeon here."
He didn't specify there wasn't a s*x dungeon, but I ignored that. "What's below?" ”
"Nothing important." Stepping nearer, he wrapped his hands around my arms.
"Perhaps a glass of wine? ? ”
His body heat made my mouth dry as I passed him.
Luke retrieved a bottle of white wine from the refrigerator. I nervously stood by the sink while he poured two glasses. He handed me one and saluted. I gulped down half of it.
Luke looked at me and added, "I'm sorry if I'm making you anxious."
I said, "No." He lied, so I simply shrugged. "You scare me more than worry me."
I groaned and gulped the last of my wine while trying to think. Luke filled my drink without asking.
"You're businessman. "As I said it, I understood it was true. Luke's fervor and possessiveness made me nervous for the same reason I disliked guys like my father. He branded me, but a brand isn't a fence. Being his was appealing, wonderful, and subservient. On another, I felt like he was gently entangling me in a web and caging me in.
Odelia encouraged me to forget the negative influence of my parents, but how?
Luke interrupted my thoughts by saying, "I'm sorry." "I'm married. "I'll pour you a glass of wine."
"Yes," I answered, "but I'm your wife despite not having dated. That's... I believe that's vital.
He drank slowly. He remarked, "I despise that period." "It seemed wise to pass."
"It may be uncomfortable, but it's enjoyable."
Luke grunted. “No. I don't desire love. He seemed confused. "That won't bring me joy." ."
He raised an eyebrow and sipped wine.
"But you just said you want a woman without love. You need therapy, not an arranged marriage."
His grin twitched. "Why do I need a therapist, Joyce?" “I can f**k,” he said.
I laughed so hard I almost spilled wine down my shirt. I was shocked. I didn't know you could joke. "Oops, we're becoming acquainted. That's bad."
As he drank, his eyelashes fluttered. He said "fine."
I cast about for something to say, then finally hit on the perfect conversation starter.
"What are you busy for recently?"
“Working on the takeover of your father's company, actually.”
I'd nearly forgotten. My marriage to Luke ensured my mum received medical care. I wanted to puke up when I thought of my father receiving a second shot.
I responded, "Oh." “Good.”
"Your family is averting financial devastation ,"
I said "Uh-oh."
My snarky comments didn't delight Luke. He carefully laid his wineglass down, chafing on my wine-addled nerves.
I raised my hand when he said "Joyce."
He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, as if girding himself. When he opened them again, he was determined.
"s*x not satisfying? "
I answered, "Nope." And it was true. He wasn't sensible. I should've ran like my arse was on fire. And... he was okay.
He was stunned.
He wasn't the jerk I'd assumed.
Luke closed the gap between us. He gently caressed my face, leaving me shaking and asking for something I couldn't identify.
Luke kissed me while bending his head.
He could kiss.
Soft, sensuous lips met. He nibbled me like berries. Then his tongue slid out and I fell apart, asking him to come in.
His arms wrapped around me as I caressed his chest. As he broke our kiss and placed his lips to my ear, I felt his heart pounding. Hot breath murmured meaningless replies I couldn't comprehend.
