CHRIS WAS on the parking pad behind the house, where he and Ted had just finished giving Mabel a coat of polish when Angela called to tell him “We’ll be there in twenty minutes, if that’s okay.”
“I’ll be here,” Chris said, wondering who the ‘we’ referred to.
“Is someone coming over?” Ted said.
“Yeah. The wife of the head guy at Mickey’s bank, so we want to be on our best behavior. I’m going to run upstairs and take a quick shower. If the doorbell rings before I get back downstairs, you can handle it. Okay?”
“Yes, Sir.”
