Public Pool

Chapter 1 - Jordan     Fridays... Fridays were always a quiet day, which sadly passed slowly, especially my last class, which was mostly full of senior students who were dying to go home as fast as they could. They were much more interested in deciding which party they were going to tonight than in my boring art projects. ... But I couldn't put all the blame on them. I also wouldn't pay so much attention to my classes if I were in their place back in high school... As soon as the bell rang, everyone ran out as if their lives were at risk, and only a few students remained behind, helping me to put away the paints and other things we used today during class. Saying goodbyes to some coworkers on my way out through the empty hallways, everything seemed to be just another day.   "Did you know that most of your students seem to have a crush on you since they saw you at the public pool last week?" Ria's voice mentioned out of nowhere, as she appeared like a ghost beside me as always. "... Yes, I know, but they should focus on their studies now instead of what's under my clothes." Calming myself down after being surprised by her, I replied after taking a deep breath. "C'mon! They're teenagers, and it's not every day that you found out that your art teacher, who dresses like an old man, has the body of a Greek God." Getting into my car as it belonged to her, she kept talking about my body. For sure, I didn't expect that to be the main topic as soon as classes returned when I visited the pool with Ria last week... The heat that made on that day was unbearable for my cold-blooded friend when my old air conditioner decided to play with us, stopping working in the heatwave, forcing us to go to the last place on Earth that Ria would like to visit... A public pool. Unlike what she or I imagined, the place was visited more by teenagers than children, and even a few teachers were there that afternoon. And like we expect from a place where everyone knew each other, Ria and I soon became the main talk of the people in there as they never saw her before, although I have been living here for the last six months.   ... Some soccer players argued among themselves who would be the first to speak to my friend while other teenagers talked out loud whether she was my girlfriend or not, trying to find out what the relationship was between us... So for a while, I saw her coldly rejecting the boys who think they were better for her than me, making my day while I pretended to be reading a book in the shadow, even if I could understand why they were so attracted to her. Ria looked like a movie star with her beautiful black hair, small body that had all the curves in the right places, and her long legs that made her look like a model every time she walked by. Her Latin origin made her have fair skin that had a natural tan on it that made her look even more gorgeous, despite her always disagreeing with me, mentioning that her skin was much more beautiful in the past and that now it was just a memory of the beautiful golden tone that she once had... "I swear, I will kill someone if they continue to piss me off." Sitting next to me with a towel wrapped around her body, she complained while drying her hair. "What happened? Are you already tired of your fan club?" Closing my book after bookmarking the page that I was reading, I put down my sunglasses to look at her. "I knew you were pretending to be reading." She immediately accused me before getting up again, but this time trying to take me with her. "C'mon! You're not going to leave me there alone this time, and don't even try to say that you can't swim, because we both know this is a lie since you were born almost in the water." She pulled me with her to the edge of the pool easily before I could even defend myself, although there wasn't much I could say to her, I mean... Nothing that she said was a lie as much I didn't want to agree with her. I was born in a seaside town, and the fact that my parents loved the sea so much, almost made me be born on my dad's fishing boat, but these were just details, and it didn't mean I was a big fan of swimming pools. ... I never understood why people preferred a box full of water instead of enjoying the immensity of the ocean when it wasn't too away from them, even if that wasn't my reality at the moment... "C'mon, Ria. We can't talk about it peacefully like the adults we are." Trying to convince her while attempting to hold my body back, everything seemed useless as she continued to pull me to the water as if I weighed nothing, and at those times, I really hated the extra strength she had. "Sorry, Jo, but this is not negotiable this time." Those were the last words she spoke before I was thrown into the pool with clothes and everything, being my only luck that I had left my cell phone on the table with my headphones that I was using early. "God, I hate you so much sometimes." Running my hand over my face before combing my hair back, I spoke to her as soon as I emerged from the water. "Thank you, Sweetheart." Blowing a kiss, she answered me while bending down. "This is my job as your personal Devil." With a silly smile on her face, she continued to say before helping me out of the pool. "Well, my sweet Devil, how am I going to go home now?" Showing off my soaked clothes to her, I didn't know how Ria expected me to get in my car like that. "Aren't you wearing swim trunks under all this? Just take out your clothes, I'm sure they dried up by the time we left." She spoke to me as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "But if they don't dry out, you can use mine if you like, I'm pretty sure we use almost the same size based on how thin you are." Entering back into the pool, she proposed laughing as if it were something she would love to see, even though she knew that it wasn't true... Being a sad fact for her and a lucky one for me. Besides, being taller than her, I was pretty sure that I was at least twice bigger than her, even though I didn't look like it.   ... The reason why most of my students thought I was fat, or at least had a tummy, based on the clothes that I always wore...    But anyway, these were the events that made me remove my clothes in public, creating all the rumors that didn't seem to die anytime soon in the school... As I already mentioned, I was quite tall with almost six feet, and like most people in my family, I had a swimmer's body type with broad shoulders, a thin waist, and toned abs. Being for sure, very different from how they imagined that my body looked like.   And in that way, I had somehow become the new handsome teacher, that like the English teacher was for male students, I was the one who all female students wanted to sleep with, although I think the football team coach was a lot better looking than me. ... But there was nothing I could do about it, except wait for the rumors to disappear as a new one arise... "Gosh! Jo, look at this man! He's so handsome!" Ignoring the fact that I was changing, Ria mentioned entering my room, showing me the news on her phone, something about a CEO called William Barnes that was opening a new spa in the mountains or something like that. "What do you think they would say if a man like him showed up at the public pool? I mean, they made all that noise for you, so if it were him, they would completely lose their voice. Jokingly, she said, even though I couldn't disagree, the man really was quite handsome. "For sure, they would, compared to me, he is the true Greek God here," As simple as that, I replied, putting on my pajama shirt, not imagining how connected my destiny was to that CEO.
