Chapter 1
Rhea POV
“Hey you! Number 10. Your 3 years are over. Your family is here for you,” a gruff voice snapped at me from the doorway.
I am curled in the corner of a room at Eclipse Reform Academy, my knees pulled tight to my chest, arms wrapped around them. This place was a dumping ground for werewolf families rejects, the disowned ones, the ones who’d supposedly wronged their packs and family but needed “reforming.” were brought here, away from the others.
Three years I’d been here in this academy but it felt like an eternity, each day blending into the next with beatings disguised as “training” and lessons.
“Finally getting rid of you, mutt. On Christmas Day, thank the moon goddess.” he sneered as he approached and grabbed my arm, yanking me to my feet without a shred of care. My legs wobbled but he didn’t care as he dragged me down to the exit.
“Bet you’re thrilled to leave this paradise, huh? But remember what we taught you, out there, you’ll learn your real lesson.”
I didn’t fight back, just let him pull me along.
There was nothing nice about Eclipse Reform. Every teacher here bullied us, calling names that stuck like thorns. They’d remind us daily that we were here because we didn’t belong anywhere else, discarded wolves without a true pack.
We burst through the doors as I saw a guy that looked familiar standing by a sleek black car, arms crossed. He is dressed simple, just jeans and a plain gray t-shirt.
It took me a second to remember him. That’s Kelvin. The guy who’d been my younger brother for 21 years. Those memories felt like someone else’s life.
He didn’t move to hug me or anything, just stood there. He didn’t even wish her a happy Christmas. There was nothing special about today. Absolutely nothing.
“Get in the car, Rhea.” He said rudely.
I say no words as I walked to the car. Finally leaving this place. It had been three years of isolation, no visits from my parents or siblings for 3 good years. Not like visitors weren’t allowed but my family decided not to come. My life had never been this way. It all started on my 18th birthday.
I’d lived the best life a wolf could dream of.
As the only daughter of Alpha Marcus Nightshade, leader of the Nightshade Pack, strong, respected, my mother, Luna Elena, showered me with all the love. My senior brother, Ethan, treated me like gold, always protecting me during play fights, calling me his little warrior. Kelvin, my younger brother, followed me everywhere while I act the elder sister role. Even my fiancée, Damien, Alpha of the Shadowfang Pack, my childhood sweetheart, showed me nothing but love, promising forever.
But everything fell apart on what should have been my 18th birthday celebration. I’d anticipated that day for months, dreaming of the feast, of finally turning an adult. Instead, it turned into the worst day of my life.
A DNA test proved I wasn’t the Nightshades’ real daughter, switched at birth. My parents, Alpha Marcus and Luna Elena, were devastated but still decided to keep me as their daughter, that I’d always be family. “There’s nothing wrong having two daughters.” She said.
I loved Sophia from the day she arrived. Despite being my replacement. I gave her all my love, always. I gifted her most of my cherished belongings, mom bought for me and made her feel comfortable. Her happiness made me happy, even if it hurt sometimes. I’d always wanted a sister and the moon goddess gave me one.
I always wanted us to be like twins. I asked Mom for the same things she got us, matching necklaces, even the same boots. And the pack chose Sophia quickly, loving her more. Still, I never stopped loving her. My heart stayed full of love, hoping one day she’d see me as her sister who loved her with everything I had.
But Sophia wanted everything I had. One night she staged a fall, smeared fake blood, and screamed I’d pushed her down the staircase. My parents believed her without hesitation. Dad roared that I was wicked and selfish after twenty-one years of love and this was how i would treat their daughter. Everyone including my fiancée saw me as the bad one now without believing the side of my story.
In that moment, I lost my home, my family. Now nothing felt exciting anymore, realising I’m heading back to that same pack that now saw me as an enemy to their future Luna.
As I slid into the front seat, Kelvin got in the driver’s side.
“Get in properly, or you can choose to stay an extra year here,” he said rudely.
I buckled up without a word.
He drove off.
He broke the silence as he noticed how stiff I was.
“Seems like this school did its job,” he continued. “Broke that spoiled spirit. Good. You needed it.”
Still, I said nothing. He accelerated, the speedometer climbing to 80 and then 100, expecting me to tell him to slow down as I’d always do but I didn’t.
A faint smirk tugging at his lips.
My eyes stayed fixed on the road.
The car hit 120.
His smirk widened. He was doing it on purpose.
Suddenly, his phone rang and Kelvin mashed the brake intentionally, tires screeching as my head slammed into the dashboard, pain exploding across my forehead.
He answered on loud speaker. “Yeah?”
“Mr. Kelvin,” a female voice said urgently. “Where are you? The race is about to start. Everyone’s waiting, alphas from three packs, bets flying. You gonna make it?”
“On my way,” he replied coolly. “Be there in 10 minutes.”
“Good. Don’t be late, prize is huge this time.”
He ended the call, turned to me with that same cold face. “Get out.”
Before I could react, he leaned over, popped the door open, and shoved me out hard. I tumbled out, landing on my hands and knees on the expressway.
“Call a taxi,” he said.
Before I could speak, he shut the door and drove away.
