Collins found Nathan when he reached the room he had been directed to, but the bed was empty.
“Where’s Georgius?” he asked. “Nate. Nathan!” He had to speak several times before he got a response from Nathan, who was staring into nothing, oblivious to his arrival.
“Uh, what? Oh, hello, sir,” Nathan said once he realised he was no longer along in the room.
“What’s up?” Collins asked. He supposed his friend could simply be reacting to the fact that his partner had been injured, but he didn’t think so; he got the impression that something more was going on than the fact that DC Georgius had been hospitalised.
“Nothing,” Nathan said quickly. “I’m alright.”
Collins just stared at Nathan for several long moments until he looked away.
