Calling for backup to help head off the fleeing suspect had taken what spare breath he had, and he could only wonder how much longer he could go on before he had to stop, or worry about collapsing. He was determined to continue for as long as he could, however, and so he struggled on, somehow managing not to lose ground on his target.
