It was mid-afternoon before Nathan and Georgie made it back to the station, drained and unhappy, despite their success. It was not the kind of success that either of them wanted, since it was going to cause them more problems than it solved, but it progressed their case, which was something positive.
They went straight to the forensics lab, so they could drop off the two computers they had taken from the Powers’ house, and the collection of disks they had found in the step-siblings’ bedrooms. Nathan invoked the DCI’s name as he requested the items be handled as a priority, sure that Collins, in his current mood, would back him up. From there they headed to the CID division, where Nathan discovered a note summoning him to Collins’ office the moment he returned.
