Chapter 3: Weighing Options

1540 Words
Rose's POV: Days passed, and I couldn't shake off Luke's proposal. I weighed the pros and cons, trying to make a decision. A comfortable life and stability for myself were tempting. But the thought of a loveless marriage, a contract wife, felt suffocating. I needed someone to talk to, someone who understood me. I decided to visit my best friend, Jenna. We'd known each other since college, and she always had a listening ear. As I arrived at Jenna's place, she greeted me with a wild grin. "Hey, girl! What's poppin'?" she asked, noticing my troubled expression. We sat down, and I filled her in on Luke's proposal. Jenna's eyes widened dramatically. "Hold up, let me get this straight. He's asking you to be his contract wife? Like, a fake marriage for convenience?" I nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Yeah, something like that." Jenna chuckled. "Well, at least he's not asking you to be his mistress. That's just a whole different level of drama." I rolled my eyes good-naturedly. "Jenna, focus." She giggled. "Sorry, sorry. So, what's holding you back? It sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me." I sighed. "It's just... I don't know if I'm ready for a loveless marriage. And what about my feelings? Don't they count?" Jenna's expression turned serious, and she wrapped her arm around me. "Girl, your feelings always count. I'm just messing around because I want to see you happy. But seriously, what do you want to do?" I thought for a moment before responding. "I think I'm going to accept his proposal." Jenna nodded, a mix of concern and support on her face. "Okay, sis. If that's what you want, I'll support you. But don't say I didn't warn you." She winked. "You're getting a pretty good deal, though. Luke's hot, and you'll get to live a comfortable life" Rose's POV: I took a deep breath and decided to inform Luke about my decision. I texted him, asking him to meet me at his place. He agreed, and I headed over. When I arrived, Luke greeted me warmly. "Hey, Rose. Thanks for coming over. Have you made a decision?" I nodded, feeling a sense of determination. "Yes, I've thought it through, and I'm willing to accept your proposal." Luke's expression remained neutral, but I sensed a hint of satisfaction. "Good. I'll have my lawyer draw up the contract. Let's discuss the details tomorrow." I nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. "Sounds good." Luke's eyes locked onto mine, and for a moment, I felt a spark of connection. But it was quickly extinguished as he turned away. "Let's keep the details between us for now," he said. "I don't want Mia to get too excited until everything is finalized." I nodded in agreement. "Of course." With that, our meeting came to a close. I left his place, feeling a mix of emotions. Luke's POV: As I watched Rose leave, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over me. Having her on board would make things much easier for Mia and me. But as I turned back to my living room, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. A hint of guilt flickered across my face. I pushed the feeling aside, reminding myself that this arrangement was necessary. Rose would benefit too; she'd get to live a comfortable life, and I'd ensure she was taken care of. But as I thought about Rose's hesitation, I wondered what she'd be like as my wife. Would she adapt easily to our arrangement, or would she struggle with the boundaries? I shook off the thoughts, focusing on the logistics. I called my lawyer to arrange the contract, making sure to include everything we'd discussed. As I waited for the documents to be drawn up, I couldn't shake the feeling that this arrangement might be more complicated than I anticipated. Rose’s pov: I met Luke at the coffee shop the next day to finalize the contract. As I sipped my coffee, discussing the contract details with Luke, a woman walked into the restaurant. She glanced around, her eyes landing on us. For a moment, she seemed surprised, then her expression smoothed out. She ordered her coffee and waited, her gaze drifting back to us. When she received her coffee, she turned to leave, but her eyes met mine, and she smiled. "Mind if I join you?" she asked, already sliding into the booth beside me. I exchanged a look with Luke, who seemed taken aback. "Actually, we're in the middle of a discussion," he said. But the woman, Lucy, had already introduced herself and was chatting with me. As we exchanged pleasantries, I couldn't shake the feeling that she was trying to get a read on me, to figure out what I was doing with Luke. Luke's body language had become more closed off, his expression neutral. I wondered what was going on, but before I could ask, Lucy asked me about my relationship with Luke. I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. "We're getting married," I said finally, trying to sound confident. Lucy's eyes sparkled with interest. "Oh, congratulations! That's wonderful news." But as she congratulated me, I sensed a hint of skepticism behind her words. I started to feel uneasy, wondering if she knew something about Luke that I didn't. As Lucy chatted with us, I couldn't shake off the feeling that she was probing for more information. Her questions seemed innocent enough, but I sensed a underlying curiosity about our relationship. "So, how did you two meet?" Lucy asked, her eyes sparkling with interest. I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal about our arrangement. "We met through mutual friends," I said finally, trying to keep my tone light. Lucy nodded, her expression thoughtful. "I see. And you're sure you're ready for marriage? It seems like you're... getting to know each other." I felt a flutter in my chest, sensing that Lucy was trying to imply something. Luke's expression remained neutral, but I could sense a hint of tension in his body language. "Yes, we're sure," I said, trying to sound confident. But Lucy's words had planted a seed of doubt in my mind. Was I really ready for this? Was I just blindly agreeing to a arrangement without knowing what I was getting myself into? As Lucy continued to chat, I found myself growing more and more uneasy. I started to wonder if I had made a mistake by agreeing to this arrangement. Luke seemed to sense my unease and reached out, covering my hand with his. "Everything okay?" he asked, his voice low. I nodded, trying to smile. But Lucy's presence had unsettled me, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that I was in over my head. Lucy however stepped out to make a call. As Lucy spoke with Blake, her voice was laced with intrigue. "Blake, it's Lucy. I think I might have found something interesting." Blake's tone turned curious, but beneath the surface, a sinister intent lurked. "What is it, Lucy? You know I'm always up for a good story." Lucy's words spilled out in a hushed tone. "I just met Luke Harrison's fiancée. Rose, I think her name is. And I have to say, I'm intrigued." Blake's interest piqued, and his voice took on a subtle, menacing tone. "Luke Harrison? The tech mogul? What's the story with him and this Rose?" As Lucy filled Blake in on what she'd observed, Blake's mind whirred with possibilities. He couldn't help but think about Rose, the girl he'd known since childhood. The one he'd secretly coveted for years. The thought of her marrying Luke Harrison sparked a jealousy-driven determination within him. "I think we might have a story on our hands, Lucy," Blake said, his voice dripping with calculated intent. "Can you dig up more information on this Rose and Luke's arrangement?" Lucy, unaware of Blake's true motives, nodded. "I'm on it, Blake. I'll see what I can find out." As they wrapped up their conversation, Blake's smile grew, fueled by his obsession with Rose. He would stop at nothing to separate her from Luke and claim her for himself. Blake's expression turned calculating as he leaned forward, his eyes locked onto the phone. "Lucy, I like the way you think. Let's make a deal. You dig up everything you can on Rose and Luke's arrangement, and I'll... take care of the rest." Lucy's voice was husky with excitement. "And what's in it for me, Blake?" Blake's smile was cold, calculating. "You'll get what you want - Luke Harrison, all to yourself. I've heard you're quite... fascinated with him." Lucy's laughter was like music, a throaty sound that sent a shiver down Blake's spine. "Let's just say I have a certain interest in him. And I'll do whatever it takes to make sure Rose doesn't get in my way." Blake nodded, his mind already racing with the possibilities. "Good. I'll send someone to meet with you, to discuss the details. Let's get this show on the road." As Blake hung up the phone, a slow smile spread across his face. He had a feeling that this was going to be a very interesting game.
