Chapter 1
Layla's POV,
I woke up to a knock on the door. 'Who is outside?' I was very sleepy, so I asked from my bed, but when nobody answered, I got up and went towards the door. As soon as I opened it, I found Uncle Diego outside.
After looking at him, I didn't understand what I should do next. Before I could say anything, he asked, 'If you don't mind, can I come inside?'
I'm sorry, yes, of course. Please come inside. Please sit, and I'll bring something for you. I was about to leave when he held my hand and said, 'I don't need anything, daughter. I only need a few minutes to talk to you.'
Listening to him, I was unable to understand what he wanted to talk to me so early in the morning, but he was like my father. After my parents died, he treated me like his daughter, so I could not show any indifference towards him.
I was thinking this when he interrupted me and said, 'What happened Layla? If you have another plan, then I will meet you another day. But please remember this is very urgent for me.'
'No, no! I don't have another plan. You please sit and tell me what you want to talk to me?' I only said this when he sat on the couch and said, while making his face sad, 'I know it will be very difficult for you to do what I tell you now, but still I hope that you will definitely understand me. Layla, I know you want to live your life by yourself, but I want you to marry my son Roman.'
As soon as he said this, I was astonished and immediately replied, 'I respect you, and you know I consider you as my father, but I can't marry your son. I want to live in this house because all my memories are here, and as far as I remember, your wife will never consider me as her daughter-in-law. So please don't say baseless things.'
Saying this, I was about to leave when he held my hand and said, 'I have had a heart attack twice, and the doctor told me I have only a few months to live. I want to fix things before I die. You know very well that my son is very irresponsible, and I know you can change him. So please, I am begging you, please marry him.'
He kept telling me to wed his son, but I am fully aware that this will not be a simple decision for me in the future. Even about Roman, I know nothing. How am I supposed to marry a man I've never even met?
I know it's not easy for you, sweetheart, so I'm leaving now but I'll be back. I'm asking you to wed my son, so please give what I'm saying some serious thought. And I hope you will agree to marry my son when I get back. While he was saying this to me, I was continuously staring at him. Saying this he moved closer to me and gave me a forehead kiss before leaving my house.
He left my house, but I still didn't understand why he chose me for his son. I'm not sure, what I will answer him but I will most certainly tell him 'No'. I want to live my life here, in my mother's house, and I will not go anywhere because I can't marry his son.
As I was thinking this, my doorbell rang once more. Who's on the door now? I approached the door while whispering this, and as soon as I opened it, Emer was there.
Good morning, Layla! I decided to come check since I heard some noises coming from your room. Is everything alright? He questioned, glancing at me.
Yes, all is well. I was just chatting to Uncle Diego since he had arrived. After I gave him my response, he asked me once again, "Why had he come here so early in the morning?"
Emer is a neighbourhood buddy from my childhood. We used to speak about everything together, but I was not able to understand if I should tell him about my conversation with Uncle Diego. As I was considering this, he inquired once again, "What happened? Please respond to a question I asked you."
He came here to offer a marriage proposal for me. I only said this when he said while being angry-" What the f**k is this? Who the hell is he to decide about your marriage? "
I stopped him after he said this and said, "Why are you being so rude? He's my uncle, and all he has on his mind is his son. He didn't force me to wed his son; he merely preferred to make me a marriage proposal. So just unwind, and I'll give it some thought."
I had hardly finished speaking when he answered, "What rubbish are you talking about? What do you think about it? They have probably already made plans for you so they can bring you along. As far as I'm aware, Roman enjoys clubbing, dancing, and heavy drinking.
You're a simple girl living here, you'll never be able to make yourself at home among such individuals. Thus, heed my advice and decline your uncle. Tell him you can't marry such an absurd man."
He was saying this continuously without pausing to breathe, so I held his hand and said while calming him- "Emer, I know you are worried about me, but I need some time to think about this so please be calm and give me some time to think about it. I'll see you tomorrow, goodbye."
Though my head was already throbbing so much, he still seemed irritated and wanted to talk to me but I didn't. So I asked him to leave because I didn't want to argue this early in the morning. Listening to me he left my room after that I closed the door and went back to my bed.
In my life, all of this was occurring quite rapidly. I picked up the picture frame of my mother and hugged her and started sobbing because I was missing her so much. I will not have to experience anything like this if she stays with me.
When I felt hopeless, I would always miss my parents so much, but there was nothing I could do because they couldn't come back to me. I wish, That day my parents and I had perished in the same accident. So I will not have to see this situation.
I did not even realize when I fell asleep while crying and after a while I woke up again with a knock on my door. When I looked at the clock, it was 2 p.m., I fixed my appearance and came to open the door.
As soon as I came near the door and opened it, I panicked because as soon as I opened the door, Uncle Diego fell on me. I got very scared seeing this, I tried to revive him by sprinkling water on his face but when he still did not regain consciousness, I immediately called the ambulance.
The ambulance arrived within 5 minutes and I took him to a nearby hospital. I was very scared because if anything happened to Uncle Diego, the blame would probably fall on me.
After all, this happened to him in my house and his wife would not leave me alive. Please, Jesus, save him!
I was praying to God to save him when the doctor came outside and after looking at him I asked him-" Is he fine, doctor? "
'Yes, he is fine yet but you have to be careful about his health. This condition of his is due to not taking medicines on time and due to excessive stress, hence please take care of him, he has regained consciousness now and is calling you inside, but remember he should not be under any stress again otherwise he might even lose his life. '
Informing this to me he went from there and listening to him tears started flowing from my eyes. I could not save my parents' lives, but if I can save Uncle Diego's life, then I will definitely do it. Saying this to myself, I wiped my tears and came inside. After coming close to him, I held his hand and asked, "How are you feeling now?"
'I am fine, thank you for bringing me here but if you want to leave then you can. For a short time I became very selfish, forgive me, my daughter! I was only thinking about my son but I know you don't want to do this at all, that's why I will not put any pressure on you for this, after my death he can live the way he wants, he started coughing while saying this.'
I couldn't see him in this condition, that's why without caring for myself I said to him-" Uncle, please be calm! you said that I am your daughter so this is your right to choose a husband for me. I will marry your son but you have to promise me one thing you will never stressed."
I only said this when suddenly his facial expression was changed and he started smiling. I promise you, my princess, if you will marry my son I will never take any type of stress.
After saying this he hugged me and again said-" If you agree then we will come to my house now and I will organise your marriage tomorrow."
But you are not well, uncle. Once your health improves, I will get married the day you say. Seeing his eagerness, I said.
"I am fine and once you get married to my son my disease will be recovered."
(He was so desperate for my marriage that he did not even want to listen to anything I said. Despite my reluctance, I had to accept his decision and I agreed to marry his son.)
Today I understand that one moment is enough to change anyone's life and the arrival of Uncle Diego at my house is that one bad moment which is going to destroy my entire life. But I can't do anything because I am so helpless.
I was cursing myself thinking about why I was doing this but I could not even see him die in front of my eyes and I was feeling suffocated inside because this was going to be the worst decision of my life.
