His Vampire. Her Werewolf.

Chapter 8

    While Raine tried to get more information out of the Rogue leader, Steven and Symphony were up in his office working on finding the vampire that had turned Symphony and killed Raines' father.  They had almost narrowed down where he was, thanks to the help of neighboring packs.  They had found that he had crossed the border from the Red Diamond territory to the Grey Water territory and according to their Alpha he hadn't left their territory.  They zoomed in on that area looking for possible hiding spots.

    Raine had joined them about 2 hours later.  Symphony got him caught up with what they had found, he was relieved they had made some progress.  Raine called the Alpha of the Grey Water pack and asked him for permission to send some warriors over to scout possible hiding places, he had agreed as he was friends with Raines' father and wanted this vampire dead too.  Riane dispatched the warriors and sent Steven along too so he could report any findings and they could mark where they had looked.

    Symphony could not have been happier that they had a general location of the vampire that had hurt her and her mate.  She quit looking over the map for a while and helped Tainne figure out the breach in the defenses that the rogues had come through.  She had even gone over the history of all the pack members, paying close attention to those that were formally rogues and had joined the pack in the past year. She had come up with a pile of potential suspects and brought them to Raine's attention. He looked through the pile and narrowed it down to about 10 families that he thought might have a hand in the attack.  He asked Symphony to look into it for him, she hesitated because she doubted they would tell her any information because of her being a vampire.  Raine saw her point and told her to keep looking into the backgrounds and see if anything popped out and he would handle the families.  

    It had been a few hours and Symphony had received a phone call from Steven, they had checked at least 20 places they thought the vampire could be and no luck. She told him to keep looking and that she would let Raine know about their progress.  They hung up and Symphony went to the kitchen to find something to eat. She didn't realize that it was almost dinner time and she was starving.  She grabbed a quick snack and headed back up to the office.  On the way she heard talking coming from the living room, "I can't believe we have to be nice to that thing, I don't care if she is our Alpha's mate or not. "Shh or you are going to be heard and you know the punishment for that" They continued their talk not realizing that Symphony heard every word. She was sure who it was that was talking but she thought she recognized the voices, females that went to her school.  She made a note to say something to Raine about it later.

    She found her way back to the office and continued to search through the background of the Rogues that had joined the pack.  She had gone over them so many times she almost had them memorized.  On her last sweep through them, a red flag popped out.  The last name was Johnson, they had been jumping from pack to pack over the last 6 months until they settled in Red Diamond around the time of the attack, it had said that whenever they got accepted into a pack that no more than a week or so later the packs were attacked by Rogues, they had gotten through some tight defenses too.  Symphony printed out the file to give to Raine when he returned, she couldn't believe she had missed that in the first sweep through everyone.  She waited for Raine to return, texting Steven to see if he had made any progress on his end and filled him in on what she had found there.    Raine finally came back 4 hours later and he looked worse for wear.  She handed him the file that she found and his face turned stone cold.  He recognized the name and was none too happy to see the information that was in the file.  He was madder at himself for missing it when he let them join his pack.  

    Symphony had tried to tell him that it wasn't his fault but he wasn't hearing it.  He stormed out of the office and headed to the Johnsons residents. Symphony was glad that they didn't have any children that would be involved with the whole matter. She nervously waited for Raine to return.  She waited for a few hours and was getting tired.  She decided she would head to their bedroom and watch some tv while she waited for him to get back.  She settled on Looney Tunes reruns, something to keep her mind occupied. Raine didn't come in until 5 am. She had fallen asleep waiting for him.

    She was a little out of sorts when she woke up because she was still on the couch in their room.  She saw Raine on the bed out cold. She looked at the clock and saw that it was almost 10 am.  She decided to get ready for the day and then wake Raine up.  She took a hot shower and dressed in yoga pants and a baggy t-shirt, her hair done in a high ponytail.  When she made her way out to the bedroom and saw Raine was nowhere to be found.  She checked everywhere she thought he would be. He wasn't anywhere in the house.  She tried calling him but no answer. She decided that he could come to find her when he was ready to.  She went back to the office and checked in with Steven to see if they had made any progress tracking down the vampire.  She was able to check off 30 more places which left 10 to check. She told steven where they were and wished him good luck.  When she got off the phone with him, Raine walked into the office, he didn't even look at her.  "We took care of the issue, there should be no more mishaps regarding Rogues," he said to her and buried himself in paperwork. She just stared at him, this was not like him at all. "We have made progress regarding the vampire, we were able to narrow it down to 10 possible hideouts," she told him, with no response. She was starting to get upset with him.  She ended up walking out of the office without saying another word to him.
