Chapter 1: Love, Killa Parasite.
Place: Behind the dumpster , in an alley in Laceyville.
Time: 16:00 hours, 3rd March.
A body was found neatly wrapped in a plastic cover, and along with the victim a yellow rose covered in blood. The first thing Forensic pathologist, Dr. Katherine Hyde notices in the body that lay in front of her, was the phrase ‘Love, Killa Parasite’ and beside it a pentagram written on the victim's chest, with a blade. That area looks blue. As she removes the sheet, to get the full view of the body, she sees that the man’s external genitalia had been cut off, with an almost surgical precision, and was missing. Followed by multiple lacerations, scratches and small bite marks, along with swelling and rashes, mostly rats she thinks. The body has started to show clear signs of discolouration. It’s going to be a long day at the morgue she thinks, and her dinner plans with her boyfriend of seven years has to wait.
“No sign of the Murder weapon, Dr. Hyde?” Detective Luke Miller asks Katherine.
“I am not sure what killed the man, Detective Miller, the blood loss or the rat bites or something else entirely. I put the time of death as somewhere before 48 hours, not after”. She says.
“Looks like this is going to be a long ass day, we might have to push dinner to some other day!” He says to her.
“I think so too!” She says and gives him a peck on the lips.
“Lock and load, let’s go! Carter! look alive! Let’s go! Let’s go!” She says to her assistant Dr. Max Carter, a new medical graduate, who has recently joined her once solo team of forensic pathology.
“Yes mam!” He says looking up from the dead body, he looks like he is about to throw up. ‘Medical students!’ Katherine thinks in her mind as she rolls her eyes.
Her eyes light up, as she sees Luke’s face on her phone that reads Luke calling.
“Got anything for me, other than another dead body?” She asks
“How about tea? And chocolate biscuits?” He asks
“I would love that, and while you are at it, please bring me a cup of coffee too! I need to be at my one hundred percent, to get this cracking!” She says
“Anything for you, darling!” He says to her with a laugh.
“Why aren’t you busy? Is this not your jurisdiction? Shouldn’t you be taking point or something?” She asks him.
“Rivers stole it! He told me ‘Plenty of muggings to focus on Miller, you are too young for psycho killers’, he is so annoying!” Luke says in a low tone.
“Got an ID on the victim?” Kate asks.
“Working on it! I will meet you in ten or so!” Luke says before hanging up.
“Sure and do let me know if you find the p***s! Bye! Love you” She says hanging up.
As Luke walks into the examination table, he sees Katherine doing her usual job, weighing the victim’s organs, but with a frowning face.
“As promised! Tea and biscuits and also coffee for my lady!” Luke says.
“I found the p***s!” Katherine says.
“Wow! You serious, I need to let Rivers know! Anything else you got for us?” Luke asks Katherine.
“It was in his abdomen, and considering that the digestive juices haven’t eroded it, he died due to blood loss, so I’m guessing the rat bites and multiple lacerations were just a means of torture, and do you see these puncture wounds, the victim was poked with a sharp sewing needle, at least two inches in! And these marks, they are from cable ties! This is a very unique and gruesome MO! The victim was tortured by rats first, while being tied up and then his p***s was cut off and sewed into his abdomen, after which he bled to death!” She says ending her monologue.
“I have to let the precinct know we found the p***s amongst other things! Anything else? What is with the pentagram and the words Love, Killa Parasite?” He asks.
“Do you think this could be cult related ? And I have got nothing new yet! Let me dig around a bit more!” She says.
As she takes out the organs one by one she finds a small rusted blade poking through the stomach. “Luke! How about a part of the murder weapon?” She asks, as she shows him the rusted blade.
“Is that a 10 blade? Used in surgeries? This could make the murderer a medical personnel!” He exclaims with a horrid expression.
“You can get these on sss in a bulk, so we will never know!” She says, placing the blade in a plastic pouch.
“I guess, I should give this to you!” She says handing him the blade.
“Thanks Kate! Enjoy your tea and biscuits, I need to get this down to the precinct!” He says taking the plastic pouch from her. He waves her goodbye.
“Max! Get your butt over here! Take samples for the tests, and run them! I need to check the organs! And don’t look so yellow!” She says authoritatively.
As Max takes the samples, Kate weighs the organs and does her work quietly. She looks at the inflamed, infected organs and says a prayer before she closes the body, she says, Mr. William, (the police had ID’d him, as Mr. Roger William, a man in his late 40’s a divorcee, who lived alone, no wonder he was not reported missing.) she says, “Mr. William, I hope you find peace!”
The micro results would take at least five to seven days, but she knew that the victim had Rat bite fever, after taking a look at the insides, the culture would just be a confirmatory test. No drugs were found in his system, either they have already been eliminated or they were never found in the first place.
She takes a sip of her tea, as the phone rings. It was Luke, “Kate! I got it! I got the case! The chief gave it to me! I’m so happy!” He exclaimed. As much as she loved that, Luke got what he wanted, she feared for him! For something in her gut made her squeamish. This was a gruesome death, it’s like the killer had no conscience. “The profilers are working! They believe that this could be the start of something!”
