Sole
‘What is wrong with the elevator?’ Luna asked the staff standing in front of us.
I replied on behalf of them. ‘Nothing. I asked them to not open the doors.’ When she narrowed her eyes I revealed, ‘I own this place.’ Her eyes widened and I couldn’t help but give her a wicked smile.
‘Owning this place doesn’t give you a right to harass me!’
I leaned closer to whisper in her ear, ‘Your response didn’t seem like you were being harassed.’
She immediately stepped away and cleared her throat. ‘Stop talking nonsense!’
‘You know well I’m not.’
‘This won’t happen again.’
‘I bet it would.’
‘No it won’t Mr. Accardi.’ She squared her shoulders and walked away, probably to look for the pathetic guy she calls her man. Huh. Honestly, even when I’d come here to announce my return in her life, the way she called him her man irked something in me to a point where I lost control to my bloody hormones.
‘I thought she was going to smash your head with a violin.’ Ricci appeared from behind.
‘Well she smashed my heart instead.’ I said adjusting my shirt which was out of place due to my little activity in the elevator.
As our car moved past the front of the restaurant I noticed she was getting into her fiancé’s car. I wondered what made her decide to marry a total loser like Dave.
‘I found out why she’s marrying him.’ Ricci said bringing my attention back to him.
‘How did you know what I was thinking?’
‘You said that out aloud.’
‘Ah, I must’ve not realized.’
‘She’s definitely different from the girls you’ve dated. No one ever has affected you like this.’
‘She is different.’
‘Can I know why?’ He looked at me curiously. Usually he’s not very interested in my personal life, I guess Luna does affects me that even she incited Ricci’s curiosity about her.
‘Let’s just say there was a time when my heart loved nothing but her.’
‘And now?’
I took a deep breath before confessing, ‘Now, my heart hates nothing but her.’
‘Hate her? I thought you wanted to get back together with her.’
‘I do.’
‘Why would you want to get back together with someone you hate?’
‘You won’t understand.’ I murmured and closed my eyes.
Luna
Sweat beads slowly sliding through the side of my cheek was sign that a panic attack was almost here. What had I done? I kept thinking and rubbing my hands together to keep myself from the cold. My fiancé obviously didn’t care that I was wearing a short dress and an air conditioner right now was not what I wanted right now. But since we were in his car and I had practically cheated on him by making out with a bastard not only ruined our date but also possibly our two-weeks-away wedding.
‘How do you know that Accardi?’ Dave asked clutching steering wheel as if it was Sole’s neck.
‘We met few years ago. I don’t know him that well.’ I half-lied.
‘Are you sure? It looked like he knew you too well.’ I knew he was looking at me form the corner of his eyes so I didn’t dare to move my neck in his direction.
‘You’re misunderstanding.’
‘Oh really?’
I could’ve given him an explanation but didn’t for I knew it was of no use. The only people I knew I was to give explanation to were the people with whom I lived or rather who lived with me. Yes, my uncle, aunt and their daughter lived in my house. Why? Well, that’s a story which I would definitely tell but not now.
Right now I had to face reality. As we reached my home, I stepped out of the car not bothering to say goodbye to Dave, who by the seemed to not want it either as he drove away a minute later. What a relief!
‘How was the date?’ Gina asked as soon as I entered the house.
‘It was okay.’ I stayed calm, maybe she would not know what happened.
‘Dave told me everything.’
I looked at her and she held her phone in the air. Sometimes I wonder if she’s the one who’s dating Dave. He seems to text her more than me, but then again I’m really not interested in getting texts from him.
‘He told you everything over text messages.’
‘Yes. While you were away with your friend.’ The way she rolled her tongue while pronouncing the word ‘friend’ I knew that she knew who Dave was talking about.
‘Don’t tell your mom and dad.’
She hesitated before saying, ‘They already know. I’m sorry but mom read those texts from Dave while I was in the shower.’
‘Where are they?’
‘In the living room.’
Both of us went to see the couple sitting in tense postures, my aunt looked angrier than my uncle. Her eyes were already spitting fire the moment she saw me walk in.
‘What were you thinking?’ She said loudly.
‘I didn’t know how he would be there.’
‘The hell you didn’t!’
‘Why is he back?’ Uncle asked with a straight face.
‘I don’t know.’ I replied.
‘I knew this was going to happen. You just pretended to move on, when you clearly haven’t.’ My aunt as usual had already decided I was guilty.
‘It’s not…’
‘No matter what, your wedding with Dave is going to happen.’ She warned.
‘I never said I’ll not marry him. What happened today was nothing but a misunderstanding. I had no idea Sole was going to be there.’ I tried to explain.
‘I don’t believe a word you’re saying. It’s not the first time you’ve……’
‘Enough now. If Luna is saying she had no idea, then it is the case.’ My uncle interrupted my aunt to stop the tension from escalating. Then he looked at me and said, ‘Make sure what happened three years ago doesn’t happen again for this time I don’t think even we’ll be able to help you.’
I nodded silently. How can I let something that happened three years ago happen to me again? The ‘me’ that was three years ago, didn’t knew how lethal Sole Accardi could be. But the ‘me’ right now was well aware of the reality of that man. No matter how much he tries, he will never be a part of my life again. I won’t allow him to ruin me the way he did before.
‘So who’s the better kisser, Dave or Sole?’ Gina asked as she came into my room, unannounced as usual. After the short battle ground scene that I’d luckily escaped I’d quietly retired to my room.
‘How many times do I tell you to knock before coming into my room?’ I was sitting on the bed and she slumped down beside me, shaking her legs like a toddler. Her petite body and height shorter than mine along with her childish actions made it hard for people to believe that she was actually five years older than me.
‘You know I’m not going to listen to you, why bother saying it every time I come here.’
‘What do you want, Gina?’
‘Answer. Who’s better kisser? Dave or Sole?’ The smirk she gave me made me grit my teeth. Why was she so noisy?
‘None.’
‘Really? I thought you’d say Sole.’
‘Gina, whatever it is you’re trying to do, please stop it.’
‘You’re the one who should stop it.’
‘What have I done?’
‘Nothing. And I would ask you to do nothing because if you get back with Sole again…’
‘I won’t. So cut it please.’
‘Fine. Just keep in mind you’re getting married in two weeks.’
‘I can’t forget even if I want to, at least not in this house.’
She stood up to leave but paused to say, ‘you might think I’m interfering in your life way too much than I should but trust me this is for your own good.’
Of course, people in this house were more worried about my own good than I myself was. And that was the exact thing that I hated the most, no actually it was the second thing that I hated the most, first would be the Accardi heir, who hadn’t changed at all. He’d come into my life unannounced just like he did three years ago.
