The world didn’t stop. Even though mine did. People moved. Voices overlapped. Someone called for help. Someone else screamed. But all I could see… was my father lying there. Still. Unmoving. “Move back! Give him space!” Hands pulled me away. I resisted at first. “I’m his daughter!” I shouted. But it didn’t matter. Chaos had already taken over. And in the middle of it I searched for him. Adrian. But he was gone. Like he had never been there. The ambulance lights painted everything red and blue. I sat in silence, my hands shaking slightly, my mind replaying everything over and over again. His words. His expression. The way he looked at my father. Something wasn’t right “Miss Amara?” I looked up. A man in uniform stood in front of me. “We’re going to need you to come with us. Just to ask a few questions.” Hours later, I sat in a cold room that smelled like metal and silence. “Did your father have enemies?” the officer asked. I almost laughed. “Define enemies.” Because my father didn’t build a life like his without making them. “And tonight?” he continued. “Did anything unusual happen?” Yes. Everything. But instead, I said “No. Because I wasn’t ready to say his name. Not yet. But deep down… I already knew. This wasn’t over. And somehow… I was already in the middle of it.
