Chapter one
I've been waiting for five years now... It seems like forever since I set my eyes on you.. Do you even remember me at all... Are you even waiting for me.... No of course you are waiting.. How can you not... But I miss you.. I really do... Do you look out the window every night wondering if I was doing the same... Do your heart ache for me.... “Jessie .... Jessie... Jessie.... Jessie...” Jessie jumped and almost fell to the ground “jeez why are shouting.... I'm not deaf” she scowled “you sure about that? I've been calling you for the past five minute ” “pfft... Can I help you” Jessie said icily “nope...your phone is ringing” Drew said “oh and I think it's your mom” he added “why didn't you say that?!” Jess said and walked out of the noisy cafeteria leaving Drew sputtering. The cafeteria was full as it was the beginning of the semester and no everyone was just getting settled in. You could hear the screams of the ladies when they see their friends, the nerds who arrived early arguing about something that the world doesn't care about. It felt good to be back. It was the calm before the storm, Drew took a deep breath and smiled as he waited for Jessie or Jess as he liked to call her to come back. He smiles again as he wondered what people think when they see them together, the white dude and the black girl. He laughed out loud as he recalled how they met. 2017 It was the beginning of a new section and students where just beginning to arrive. The school was bubbling with activities. A taxi parked by the corner and a black girl of about 5'5 shuffled out, her skin was dark and wouldn't be mistaken for anything except Africa. Her hair braided with attachment reaching down to the middle of her back, the dress she wore barely reached her knew, it wasn't tight but it accented her curves nicely and when she bent over the boot to pack her stuffs, he had to look away and coughed. Drew watched as she struggled with to bring down her luggage and decided to help “you need help? ” he asked his smile friendly “no thanks I got this” she said brusquely and then smiled to lighten the effect Drew watched as she struggled to bring the box down and offered to help again and as she was about to perhaps refuse the driver honked and he could almost see the angry steam from her ears. “bastard” she muttered and turned to face him for the first time since he approached her. She jumped a little when she finally cranked her neck up to stare her at him. His breath caught as her looked down at her wide eyes and startled. Beautiful. “hi, I'm Jessie” she said shaking her head as if to clear fog and smiled a little “and you are quite talk but I'm sure you hear that everyday” she added with a chuckle and stretched her hands out “the names Drew” Drew replied shaking her. Soft and smooth like a baby's. “ Drew.... Nice.. So.... ” her voice was cut off again by another loud honk and Jessie closed her eyes as if praying for inner patience. “now before you say anything I would like you to know that I paid you and even tipped you generously ” Jessie turned and said to the driver who had gotten down for the cab his face already red with anger “you gave me $1 as tip” he sputtered angrily “it is money isn't it” Jessie spat angrily and launched into a full lecturer of the importance of every money bill while Drew tried to over his laughter with coughs as the driver stared at Jessie incredulously. “there thousands of people who need just that....... Hey I was talking to you ” Jessie yelled after the driver who had pulled her luggage from the car and drove off almost hitting a lamp post. “well.... That went well” Jessie said amused. She smiled up at Drew her eyes deep brown almost black glowing with mirth. “now what was that you were saying about helping me” Drew laughed out They've been friends ever since. Present Drew smiled as the memory washed over him. What was taking Jess so long, he thought and glanced around. Outside Jessie had a tight grip of the phone, tears running down her cheeks.
