Chapter 7: Getting too emotional?

1307 Words
The two walked into the hotel and was greeted by a man that peter recognized, he thought for a while before recalling his name. “Hey, you look good today, Bush” Peter complimented with a contagious smile on his handsome face. Bush on the other hand looked at himself before shaking his head in amazement as he wondered what was so good about his everyday code attire; 'Black suit with white shirt'. He decided to ignore Peter’s words and led them towards the hall instead.  As they got closer to the door that led to the hall, they could hear the sound of music booming inside. The guards standing by the door saluted them before opening the door for them to enter and as they did so, they finally felt the harsh treatment from the loud noise. The music was as loud as a thunder causing Olivia to wince a little which didn’t escape Peter’s line of view and so he gave her an apologetic smile. Olivia looked around and took in the whole situation of the event, from the decoration of the hall to the people around. There were few faces that she recognized and lots that she couldn’t. At the center Mr. James stood with some group of either friends or relatives while Mrs. Steven stood at the corner with other groups as well. Of course she would always be there to support her husband whether their mission was a positive or negative one. As Olivia was glancing around without paying attention to Peter, he grabbed a glass of whisky from a server passing by with a tray of drinks and downed the whole content before dropping the glass back which made her to pinch him by the side cautiously. Of course she caught him. “What” Peter asked innocently as if he never did anything. “You don’t have to be so quick with that” She cautioned seriously. Peter shrugged his shoulders before responding, “Yeah, I know but I’ve got to suck in an alcohol into my system to be able to face that man”. “Yeah, you should, but don’t overdo it. I wouldn’t want you getting too emotional and start crying while facing”. Olivia chuckled while recalling those times that Peter had always acted that way. “Do I really act that way when I’m drunk? Like get emotional and start crying? Peter asked rhetorically, it was more like to himself than to Olivia since he already knows the answer. “Yes of course” Olivia teased with a smile on her lips as she watched Peter’s reactions. “And how did you manage to know this secret?” Peter felt frustrated. “I’m your best friend, remember?” Olivia smirked “Oh, I forgot” Peter refuted as he raised his hand to tap the side of his head as if he was trying to remember something and then added, “It should be more like a 'Mom' instead”   “Whatever” Olivia laughed before saying with a serious voice, “Don’t you dare rush ALCOHOL again”. “Yes, Mom” Peter replied while Olivia rolled her eyes at him. Bush kept a straight face as if he wasn’t listening to their conversation. Mr. James left the people that he was chatting with to come and meet them as he saw them coming. He saw how the two conversed with each other and confirmed the fact that they were best friend which makes his plan much more easier. It will surly succeed. "Welcome son and you too, Olivia" He greeted them with a pleasing look in his eyes especially towards Olivia which she definitely took note of. "Pleased to meet you" "Hello," Olivia said.   "Oh! Hi Olivia and nice to meet you" A woman in peplum top with gold skirt and short blonde hair walked over too and greeted warmly which made Olivia to wonder how they got to know her name. Although she and Peter are best friends, she never got to meet his parents in person because of their bad treatment toward him. "It's nice to meet you as well Mrs. James" Olivia said, feeling awkward with the whole situation. "Just call me Cara dear" She corrected with a smile as she noticed the uneasiness within Olivia. She dragged Olivia to dance with her while handing her a glass of wine. Peter as expected got introduce to different guest both families and friends. He looked around for his step siblings but couldn't find any. "Kevin went for a business trip and so he couldn't make it to the party while Lisa is heavily pregnant and can't move around too much." Mr. James explained as he saw Peter's curious look darting the whole hall. 'Hmm....Recognition party indeed' Peter thought within himself. "What exactly does this party stand for?" He kept asking himself because it doesn't have any meaning to him. It was obvious that his father organized the party just to hold him accountable for something that he was beginning to have a bad feeling about. But unknown to him, the last question wasn't asked in his head. "Son about the party, we have to talk about it because as you can see, I have wasted a lot of money in organizing it so let's go" Mr. James kept on smiling while spitting those words from his mouth. Peter blinked speechlessly at his father's statement before asking the only question that came to his mind, "To where?" "To my office of course" Mr. James smirked as he noticed that his son had no idea that that very building they were in was his. Peter couldn't say anything but follow after his father wordlessly. Wait, the most important thing that he wanted to accomplish today, he hadn't done it.  Olivia who was dragged to dance never knew that Cara was such a dancing machine that never gets tired of dancing. After pretending to enjoy dancing with her for a while, she decided to give up as she didn't want to die while dancing. She sat down by the corner to catch her almost drained out breathe while she texted Peter asking where he was but got no reply in return. She pouted and threw her phone back into her purse. Few minutes later, Peter came into view. He wasn't walking normal but staggered towards her instead which made her to stand up and met him halfway. Peter reeked of alcohol and his eyes red, it looked like has been crying for a while. Something might have happened and so he took so much alcohol probably trying to not remember any of the incident the next day. "Peter, what happened?" she asked with a teary voice as she never knew that she was crying too until she asked that very question.  Peter only looked at her then raised his hand to clean her tears, " You don't have to shed those precious tears for anything, honey pie." He said while pouting at her. And it made Olivia to forget about the tears and laugh, he knew that she couldn't resist it. "Let's go home, Honey pie, you are the driver" He added before running towards the exit and Olivia followed without being told twice. Mr. James was standing not far from them as he watched the little drama between the two and he nodded his head with excitement. Peter entered the car first before Olivia and by the time she does so too, he had slept off and so she drove them home quietly with her worries for her best friend hovering in the air.
