chapter 1
The day before our wedding anniversary, the news of Baldwin's first love's divorce spread throughout the social circle.
When he received the call, he rolled out of bed and left without hesitation.
"You can go back to your old house and never come to the Champs Elysees again."
"Flora is coming back, she wants to come here to see, you'd better avoid it."
"......"
I was slightly stunned, and finally remembered who Flora was after a long time.
She was Baldwin's first love in his youth, three years older than him, and went abroad to get married early.
I didn't expect she would come back.
Seeing that I was unmoved, Baldwin frowned impatiently and urged:
"Hurry up."
I answered and put on my clothes a little awkwardly.
After washing up, we walked to two cars parked in front of the door, one black and one red, and drove away, one to the left and the other to the right.
Baldwin and I were married for business reasons. Before we got married, I knew she had a first love.
Adrian and I were once a famous couple. My family was almost bankrupt, my sister was young, and my mother had terminal cancer. My father was old and begged me to marry Baldwin. I agreed.
Adrian bit me on the shoulder when I broke up with him.
He said, "Maria, those who fail his true love will have to swallow 10,000 needles."
I answered, despite the pain.
Everyone said that Baldwin and I were perfect for each other. We were both talented and beautiful, and we both loved someone.
When I heard that Adrian was getting married, I cried for a long time. Baldwin didn't say anything, but gave me a tissue later.
"Maria, let's live a good life in the future."
I watched his eyes, remembering how good his parents were to me. I finally agreed.
I later learnt that, Baldwin's first love also got married in a foreign country that night.
He began to skip dinner with his friends in the evening and go home from work on time every day.
He always brought me my favourite dessert.
He took me to Victoria Harbour to watch the fireworks and to Paris to see snow.
He helped me deal with my mother's death.
My dad came to me after my mum left.
"Maria, I know you resent me for separating you from that person."
"He has treated you well, you have a good life Now."
I looked at Baldwin, who was thanking the guests.
After dealing with my mother's aftermath, I took the initiative to hold Baldwin's hand.
He was surprised.
That night, Baldwin moved back into the master bedroom.
I took care of him as a wife would.
Every day, I tied his tie before leaving the house.
He was tall, so I had to stand on tiptoes, and he laughed and bent over.
We were a loving couple.
I learned to make congee with my family's nanny when I found out Baldwin had stomach problem.
...
Three months ago, I heard him and his friends talking.
"Why did you marry Maria?"
Baldwin laughed.
"Anyway, it's not Flora, and it's not a real marriage. ”
"She's easy to persuade."
"I said we'd have a good life, and she fell for it."
The others laughed.
...
I stood outside the door until his assistant came up to ask me why I wasn't going in. I shook my head and turned to leave.
Baldwin saw me leave.
I threw the thermos box in my hand into the rubbish bin when I got to the door of his company.
On the way back, I remembered what he said when I broke up with Adrian.
Adrian, you are right.
The one who fails his true love will swallow ten thousand silver needles.
I didn't want to cry, but I did.
Baldwin came back late.
He was angry and asked, "Maria, I want to drink congee, my stomach hurts."
I looked up at him:
"Let me go talk to the nanny."
His face was dark, and then he smiled sarcastically.
"No need."
After that, he rarely came back.
