CHAPTER 8AFTER the Black Grizzly escaped into the timber, he pushed through it for a considerable distance until he reached a point where a heavy stand of trees, thick with underbrush, grew close to the bank of the river. Here the grizzly lay down in the deep cover and remained until afternoon, when he came out of the bushes and started toward the river, which narrowed sharply here and flowed in a swift, deep current.
