1566 Words
Velma arrived at their old house and couldn't help but get emotional, she always longed to come there in her past life but never the chance to all in the name of pleasing her new family and exhale deeply before inputting the door code and stepping inside. "Betty, you are back so soon" Mrs. Alec said coming to the door but she is stunned to see Velma standing there. The pair of mother and daughter stares at each other for a few minutes before Velma made the first move and ran into her mother's arms. They remain like that for another couple of minutes without words but tears in their eyes, Velma felt sorry for her bad behavior in the past and wants to redeem her mistakes. She remembered one of the most painful things that happened to her in her past life is her mother's sudden death which caused her a lot of sorrow for so long that she couldn't recover from it. Her mother had died due to her chronic diabetics sickness, Velma remembered it was around that time Betty suddenly became pregnant with Edith's child and vehemently throws her out of the house. "I am so happy you came" Mrs. Alec said caressing her face and Velma also smiled. She took a seat while her mother disappeared into the kitchen to get her some refreshments and sat down to her again "I asked Betty about you and your husband and she said you are doing quite well" Mrs. Alec said and Velma nodded silently. Of course Betty wouldn't have told her the truth that she was dying and Velma thought it will be unnecessary to do so now; it will only cause her to be worried about her. "What about your husband? Is there any trouble between you two?" Mrs. Alec asked again and Velma nod negatively happy to be able to see her in good health “How have you been? Did you take your drugs regularly” Velma queried wanting to know if Betty did anything wrong to her also. “I have been doing well my dear; Betty makes sure I take the insulin regularly. You don’t have to worry about it” Mrs. Alec answered and offered to take the water. “Thank you” Velma murmured and pondered on what could have caused her mother’s sudden death in the past when she never missed her treatments. “You actually came in time; I was just about to use the injection” Mrs. Alec said and head inside together with Velma to use her drugs. “Wait a minute” Velma said finding the bottle a little different “Did you change the hospital you go to get your prescriptions?” “Yes, Betty told me the doctor there is better” Sue replied and continued to use it. Feeling unsettled, Velma took the small bottle and took a screenshot of it then send it to Silas so he can check it out for her. She got a reply from him after an hour and opened her phone to read it, Velma grasp for breath after seeing the message and held her chest alerting her mother. “What is wrong?” Mrs. Alec questioned dropping the fork in her hand but Velma is unable to disclose the news to her Turns out this is the reason why Betty did everything in her power then to prevent her from going back to the house to check up on her mother and keep lying to her about her mother not wanting to see her. She had no idea that her mother is very sick and had to endure such great pain by herself, feeling extremely sad Velma could only cry silently and assure her mother that nothing is wrong She excused herself to go answer Silas’s call outside and took a few steps away to where her mother wouldn’t be able to listen to her calls “Who did you get this dosage from? Are you okay?” Silas queried anxiously over the phone “I am not okay, it’s my mom” she discloses to him and he became silent on the other end for a few seconds before telling her what to do. “She must start chemotherapy immediately or it would be too late to save her” he told her and Velma nod her head profusely promising to bring her by as soon as she can and end the call. She turned around to return inside the house but collide with Betty who was also just arriving home, Betty is taken aback to see Velma in the house but quickly dispersed it and put on her false smile “Velma” Without hesitation, Velma raised her hands to her face and hit her causing the smile to disappear. Betty stare at Velma shocked to be attacked and fumes’ silently wondering what this is about Velma could not believe that Betty will ever hurt her mother or risk her life just after everything her mother has faced to take care of her when her shameless mother abandoned her to be with a younger man She really stooped low in her run to ruin her and Velma couldn’t be angrier about it. “Why didn’t you tell me about Mother’s health? How could you hide it from me?” she yelled and tried to hit her again but Betty managed to escape her hand Listening to Velma’s word, Betty is visibly shaken and shocked that she managed to find out only after returning for the first time, if only she had arrived early to prevent that from happening She had kept it a secret even from her aunt, how on earth did Velma find out about her health issue so quickly? It is very unlikely that her aunt is aware and told Velma about it She has always spoiled Velma in front of her mother telling her horrible things she was doing and how she was trying to cut ties with them. “Why are you not explaining yourself?” Velma yells at her again Betty held her handbag tightly and cautions herself not to spill anything serious, she needs to know how much of the truth Velma has find out. “Is something wrong with Aunt? I really have no idea what you are accusing me of” Betty react planning to lie her way through and find out to what extent she has uncovered the truth “My mother has stomach cancer! How could you not notice? You are the one living with her” Velma cried and her eyes welled up but she pushed back her tears She was the dumb one to think that Betty was talking good care of her mother, how could she be such an unfilial daughter? Betty paused forgetting how to react, shock for a moment and thought of an excuse to give quickly before she is exposed for harming her aunt. Denying it doesn't seem to work as Velma seems pretty convinced about her claim, she might find out about the other things she has done and get her kicked out of the house. She still needs both the mother and daughter in order to achieve her good fortune and so she would need to calm down and play well. “I will never try to harm Aunt, believe me Velma” she pleaded and got close to hold her hands but Velma thrust it off. “Aunt has been having a lot of troubles with her health these days because she was worried about you and you were so occupied with your husband’s family, I kept it a secret for now so as not to hurt her, what if she get too shock from the news and something bad happens” Velma shake her head at the lie she was spewing, if it was her old self, she would have believed it without doubt and even be grateful for her care. She clenched her fists and swallowed down her anger, she have to punish her severely for all the evil things she has done to her but now was not the right time. First, she needs to save her mother and then think of a way to send Betty out of the house. Once she take off the mask in which she have been hiding her real face then she would stomp her feet on it. She brush past her and walk inside to get her mother to the hospital, she didn't explain much and only said she will like her to get another check-up at the hospital she is definitely going to serve Betty back in the same bowl of pain and force the whole thing down her disgusting throat. Velma thought as she wrap her hands around her mother who was confused at her clingy behavior but only smiles and trust her daughter as they board the cab. Betty stomped her feet as she watch Velma leave with her aunt and couldn't do a thing to stop them, she has planned everything meticulously and managed to sow discord between the pair of mother and daughter but who knows that a little carelessness on her end could ruin things like this. She surely has to do better or she might end up losing everything she has worked for.
