Conventions are the perfect places for authors and readers to connect. There are as many conventions out there as books—science fiction and fantasy cons are the ones you’ve probably heard the most about, but there are also romance cons, mystery cons, thriller cons, horror cons, even general writer cons…you get the idea. Cons are held all over the world, so you’re bound to find one nearby—or, better yet, somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit. Can we say “tax deductible business trip”?
When you find a convention you want to attend, consider contacting an organizer and offering to participate on panels pertaining to your genre or writing/publishing in general. Volunteers who run or speak on panels are usually given a free pass to the convention, which will help when it comes to budgeting y
