I’d love to be able to tell you that, once you find the right publisher for your book, you’ll shoot to the top of The New York Times’ best seller lists, be able to quit your day job, and spend the rest of your life plucking away at the keyboard. Unfortunately, it rarely works that way. I published for nine years before I was earning enough to write full-time, and that was only after starting my own small electronic press. I probably shouldn’t have quit when I did, as I still struggle to make ends meet (word of advice—before quitting the day job, pay off the credit cards first), but I’m finally doing what I want to be doing, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. However, at some point in your writing career, you’ll probably come across a few things that will make you wish you never publish
