Too often, I see first-time authors publish one book and then wait. For what? Royalties are usually paid four times a year, and depending on your release date, you may not see many sales in your first royalty report. If you have promos planned for your book, great. But you need to start thinking about the next one even before the ink is dry on your contract. Publishers usually schedule new releases out way in advance. So if you wait until your first book is out before submitting a second, you’re going to put a large gap between your releases. Readers get used to seeing the same names on new releases from a particular publisher, and look forward to new books by authors they like. If they read your first book and love it, you should have another already scheduled so they can anticipate it.
