For each of the rights listed in the previous chapter, there are two types: exclusive and nonexclusive. When signing a contract, be sure you are granting only those rights you own and can transfer to the publisher.
Almost all publishers will expect you to assign them the exclusive right to publish your story. It can be confusing to readers if multiple versions of the same e-book are available, with different covers and priced differently. Many distributors require a publisher to ensure that the book released through their site is the same price as it is elsewhere. Publishers can’t sell a book for $4.99 on their own website and then try to sell it for $9.99 on sss. This violates the distribution agreement they have signed with the distributor.
