The first thing the publisher will want after you sign the contract is something for their records indicating your tax—or tax exempt—status. You aren’t an employee of the company, so you won’t have to fill out the same forms you fill out when you get hired to work somewhere, but you will be required to provide the publisher with your legal name, physical mailing address, tax classification, and tax identification number. At the end of each tax year, the publisher may be required to send you a form indicating how much you were paid in royalties, and they need this information to complete that form.
