Lire
Zemirah's POV.
"Mother?" I called out for my Mom as I saw our dog, Lire, running outside again.
She laughed, cooking I pre assumed, "Oh, let her be, she won't leave us," She waved her hand, a sign of dismissal, disapproving with what I was going to say.
I sighed, "Alright, but if anything ever happens," I glare at Lire running around the kids at the village; they seem to be having fun. "I won't be the one to blame." I smiled softly after seeing the children running around, chasing Lire.
"Oh, don't be so tight on Lire," Mother washed her hands with the cold water she took from the Lake. "You might never know when's the last time you'll ever see them like that again." She sniffed jokingly, but I took her words seriously.
Who would ever say such things like that? I don't ever want to think about the day Lire is going to not be like this. She's been there since I was a kid, so I've grown close to her. I treat her as my family and everybody in the village does too.
"I don't want to ever think about things like that, Mother." I frowned, thinking about how things would be if Life weren't there.
She saved my life, back then when I was 7. A bad person approached me, trying to abduct me, but I wasn't aware. Thank God Lire was there to save me. She bit them and we ran away back home.
I suddenly forgot that I had things to do, when Mother walked infront of me, bringing me back to reality.
"You know, Zemirah," She started, and that made me curious about what she was going to say somehow.
She gently wiped her hands with clothing. "You're very much more than what you think you are." She stated seriously, looking into my eyes.
I smiled at her, still trying to understand what she meant but not a thought came to mind.
"You're important to me too, Mother," I proclaimed, hoping that was what she meant back.
She sighed, making me confused, but then smiled back. "You silly girl," She then said, which made me frown.
"Mother, I am a woman now," I informed her.
I was 18, yet she still treated me like I was a little kid. But I'm happy knowing it means she still cares about me, like how she did back then.
"Yes, yes you are Dear," She laughed, giving me two buckets to fill.
That made me frown more since it means I have to go to the far lake and fill two big buckets, and carry them back. It is too much work, but since it was my Mother who told me to do it, then I will.
"Alright, fine," I gave up, taking the buckets from her hands. "I'll be back soon, Mother!" I smiled at her.
She smiled back at me, but it was more of like a sad one. I couldn't explain what It was.
I shook of my thoughts and continued outside. I whistled three times, calling Lire. And as expected, she quickly came to me, waggling her tail as fast as she can. She was a very energetic one.
"Come on, Lire! We're going to the Lake." I pass her one bucket and she carried it with her mouth. I pat her head as she smiled at me with her eyes.
