CHAPTER ONE
I can still remember our moans resounding in a room in Lakeshire, a little town just between the great kingdoms of Lunar Falls and Crescent Valley. Lakeshire is a beautiful small town, where some inhabitants of Lunar Falls and Crescent Valley would sometimes relax, because of the beautiful clear blue water lake, but that certain night there was a festival at Lakeshire and the youths from both Lunar Falls and Crescent Valley had come to experience the annual festival.
The air was thick with anticipation as I made my way through the bustling crowd at the annual Moonlight Festival. The scent of pine and bonfires filled my nostrils, along with the sounds of laughter and music. It was a night of celebration, a night where boundaries blurred and secrets whispered in the moonlight.
As I weaved through the crowd and went in a bar for a drink my eyes were drawn to a figure sitting right across from me. His rugged features and piercing blue eyes caught my attention, and I felt an inexplicable pull towards him. I could not tear my gaze away as our eyes met, and a spark of recognition flared between us.
His name was Asher Rafe, a werewolf from the town of Lunar Falls. The tales of his bravery and strength had reached even Crescent Valley, where I hailed from. But it wasn't just his reputation that intrigued me. There was something about him, something that called to the depths of my soul, at that moment, and then he stood up and my heart kept pounding in my chest as he walked towards me.
He approached me with gentility and elegance, the tavern's gentle glow illuminated his handsome face and his heavenly sent body features, an image I still remember in my head like it was yesterday.
"Hello," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'm Freya Lycan ."
Asher's gaze softened as he looked at me, a mixture of curiosity and caution in his eyes.
"Freya," he replied.
"I've not been able to keep my eyes off you since you walked in this tavern, your beauty is unlike any I've seen here in Lakeshire or back home." Asher went on.
A blush crept onto my cheeks as I tried to hide the fluttering in my chest.
"The honor is mine," Asher said.
I had heard stories of what Asher and his people had done to mine, but I wasn't so sure at that moment, because he at that moment I had forgotten everything else and just enjoyed his company.
We stood there in a corner, our eyes locked in a silent conversation. The world around us seemed to fade away as the connection between us grew stronger.
It was as if we were the only two beings in existence, bound by an invisible thread that defied all logic. I had just met him, but we talked like we had known each other for years, there were times I was lost in those beautiful blue eyes of his.
After an hour or two of drinking and talking, we got a room and made love like lovers that had been separated forever and I still reminisce about that particular night, because it was my first time and magical.
I woke up to the soft morning light streaming through the curtains, feeling a mix of contentment and vulnerability.
As I turned to face Asher lying beside me, I couldn't stop looking over his body, until I saw the mark that was at the back of his shoulder.
My expression shifted from desire to confusion, and then a flicker of realization crossed my face, I had been trying to push it away but deep down I knew what it meant.
"Asher," I said softly, my voice tinged with concern, "is that... the mark?"
He nodded, suddenly feeling exposed, but confused.
"Yes, Freya. It's the mark that signifies where I come from".
But for me, it wasn't just about not being together, my mother was killed by a werewolf a few years back by a werewolf with that mark, and I swore to find her killer.
Asher grabbed me drew me to him forcefully and said "Last night was magical, I hope it won't be the last time" He said with a smirk on his face as he looked at me.
"Ye..Yes," I said with a startle as my heart was beating so fast, out of fear. Suddenly the sweet man, I met last night was someone else.
His gaze held mine, a mixture of longing and acceptance in his eyes. "Freya, calm down," He said as shushed my lips.
"You don't have to be scared," He said as he placed his hands on my chest, feeling my heartbeat.
"Okay Asher," I said with a faint moan, a part of me wanted him gone, but the weak and vulnerable part of me wanted someone with his aura.
Emotions welled up within me, threatening to spill over. I never expected our one night together to bring such a profound realization of our differences.
"I wish things were different," I whispered, my voice trembling with a mix of sadness and longing. "I wish we could defy the expectations and be together, but the mark on you won't allow it".
"What does this mark have to do with anything" He asked roaring.
"I…" I said shivering, stuck in a dilemma of telling me what I think of the mark or just being there enjoying his company.
"Freya, I can't deny the connection we shared last night, the way you made me feel. But I also can't ignore the reality of our situation, you may be from Crescent Valley, but I don't care".
Tears welled up in my eyes as his words resonated within me. I knew the weight of the mark, but it didn't make it any easier to accept. We were bound by circumstances beyond our control, and it felt like fate had played a cruel trick on us.
With a heavy heart, I looked into Asher's eyes, silently conveying what I felt and the longing that filled my soul. I had to lie to myself and him.
"I am sorry Asher, but this was just a one-night thing, it was nice, really nice but it can't work, you know that, I know that. Few days you'd have forgotten and same here" I said as I dressed up quickly and ran out, I knew if he held me back I'd succumb.
"Freya.." I heard him call faintly as I dashed out of the room, and headed home.
