Chapter 20
LANA WENT BACK to the Mother’s House with the intention of having dinner in the dining room, getting changed into a dress the king liked and visiting him. He was the only person who would care about her discoveries.
But she found the dining room virtually empty, and all the women upstairs in one of the dorms on the citadel side of the house. The window looked out over the courtyard, and you could see into the top windows of the great hall. If there was ever any light in the hall at night, it was a single lamp near the door.
Today, however, the windows radiated a golden glow, and on the floor inside stood many tables where people in colourful attire sat at dinner.
