Growing Up

437 Words
As Shady continued to grow up, she got nothing but more heartache. Nanny had started a babysitting business out of the house. She would make sure to be sober for them to be dropped off and picked up, but the minute the last kid was there, she popped a handful of pills and told Shady to keep an eye on the kids. They were aged between 6 months old to 4 years old, and all 5 of them were girls. Pawpaw would have her working in the shop every night helping him rebuild ATVs, lawnmowers, and various other things to keep her busy. Shady had built her own riding mower and started taking care of most of the neighbor's yards to try and earn enough money to get away from everything. She knew she had to get her and Pan away as soon as she could. She would watch other kids playing and spending time with their parents. How badly she wanted to have what they had, but sadly, she never got what she wanted. Angel had remarried to a 20 year old boy named Steve, who was 4 years younger than Angel and was basically straight out of high school. Angel had told everyone that she wanted to "get her marriage started without the girls, just until they had a stable home." Shady had thought she would finally have the parents love like the other kids had, but sadly, she was wrong again. She already knew Angel messed around with pills and alcohol. She had learned that early on. Angel and Steve had only dated a total of 2 months before they got married. She supposedly told him that she and the girls were a packaged deal, but that was all a lie. Angel had to raise her brother from the age of 12 due to Nanny having a tumor removed from her sinus cavity. She was 18 when she married Chuck and 19 when Shady was born. She used all of this as an excuse to not be a mom to Pan and Shady. She would always complain that she never got to be a kid. It's ironic actually since Shady has been doing the same thing since she was very young. Both Angel and Steve were more concerned about hanging out with their friends and throwing parties every night than they ever were about the girls. Nanny and Angel would constantly fight and argue over her taking the girls at least on the weekends. Shady would always hide and watch their fights. Sometimes, it would end up with them in an actual fist fight.
