The Unexpected Stalker

665 Words
It was a Friday in early October. Shady was riding with Pawpaw to go get their weekly sugar rush. On the way home, Pawpaw thought he saw a car following them. Shady asked him why he turned down the wrong street. She had already learned all the streets and ways to get home. She knew they were driving the long way home. She was starting to get worried because they never took the long way home. Sure enough, after the 2nd turn, the same silver car with tinted windows was still following along right behind them. Finally, they turned onto their road. You could see the top of their house as they started climbing the hill leading home. Pawpaw turned and told Shady to run inside, lock the door, and tell Nanny to call 911. She was a little scared, but nodded and said 'yes sir'. Pawpaw threw the truck in park as Shady bolted inside to do what she was told. He waited for the door to shut before turning to the man that had walked up to his window. He sat patiently, observing the man, and waiting for him to speak. The man was dressed in tan khaki pants, a black tight fitted shirt, Black vest with pockets, and a short buzz cut with dog tags hanging on his chest. He started asking Pawpaw "Do you know why I stopped you? The little girl was hanging out of the window. She almost fell out a few times when you swerved around the potholes about a mile back. I am going to have to take her away to a safe place while I have another officer place you under arrest for child endangerment." Pawpaw could feel that something was off about this man and the whole situation in general. Besides, he knew that everything that the man just said was nothing but lies. Shady was always buckled up with the window closed. He spoke to the man and said "I know for a fact that was all a lie. By the way, what police force are you with anyways? I've never seen you before." The man instantly replied "I'm an undercover police officer with Buckhill County, and you're going to jail. Now, hand Shady, I mean the girl over so I can get her somewhere safe." Pawpaw was sitting there thinking how stupid this man must be to even consider this plan would actually work. He obviously had not done enough research on the family before deciding to go through with his plans to take Shady. The police chief was his best friend, and he knew practically everyone on the force. Plus, Pawpaw wasn't stupid. Everybody knows an undercover cop isn't going to pull you over, especially alone, or ever take a prisoner or kid away. Hell, they won't even tell you that they're undercover. Pawpaw finally got out of the truck and told him "You need to leave since the real cops are on their way. My wife personally called the chief, and I'm positive he wants to know your plans for his favorite goddaughter." The man paled instantly. He shoved Pawpaw to the ground, bolted to his car, and fled as fast as he could. It was about a week later when the chief came over for dinner. He walked into the shop and set down a thick file on the workbench in front of Shady. He explained to them that the mystery man's name was Jody Tutor, and he was a wanted s*x offender. He was the main suspect in 4 other kidnappings and murders of little girls around the south. They had found his hideout on the outer part of town. In the rundown building, they had found multiple boxes of pictures and his detailed plans for Shady. Bobo's dad even found the grave he had already dug out about a mile into the woods. Shady was very lucky to have avoided this horrific situation, and everyone was forever thankful.
