Finding A New Brother

A New Routine

Shady was getting ready to start school this week. She wasn't really excited about leaving her sister home alone, but it wasn't like she had a choice. The first day finally came. She hopped onto the bus #5 and got herself ready to learn, something she quite enjoyed and was very good at. She gets to the school and runs down the hallway towards her class only to come to a screeching halt as she collides with 2 other little boys, Kody and Bobo. All 3 of them ended up together and bleeding in the nurse's office. They were instantly best friends. Shady had already known Bobo since his dad was a police officer, and both of their grandfathers were really good friends.

As the school year progressed, Shady fell into a comfortable routine. She would wake up to see Pawpaw off to work at 6 a.m. Then, she would ride her bike around until bus #5 picked her up at 8 a.m. Her, Kody, and Bobo would be glued together the whole day until she took the bus home at 3 p.m. Pan would be standing at the screen door eagerly waiting. Shady's feet were barely touching the ground when Pan would launch herself into her arms. They would either play in the mud pit in the front yard or race the dirt track in the back yard. All playing stopped when the sound of Pawpaw's truck 'Ole Blue' could be heard coming up the road. The girls would race to the sidewalk, waiting patiently for him to arrive. Once he finally parked, they would already have his door open waiting for him to hand them his stuff to take inside. Pan would go into the kitchen with Nanny to start cooking while Shady went to work with Pawpaw in the shop. He would teach her everything that he knew about engines and cars until dinner was ready every night. Next it was bath time, then off to bed, and repeat.

When Friday would roll around, Pawpaw would take the girls to get sweets before dinner. It was his way of rewarding their good behavior for the week. Shady was happy that everything seemed to be going well, but she knew this was the calm before the storm. Nothing ever goes right in her life for long.
