Chapter 1 (At the Cemetery)
Amelia’s POV
It’s been three years since Edward left me because of cancer, but now it still hurts so much. Edward - my fiancée, my childhood sweetheart, the love of my life. It feels like yesterday when everything happened. My parents work for his family. My father is his parent’s driver while my mother is a helper. I’m an only child and we are living in one of their maid’s quarters. Edward’s parents are very kind and humble and they treat all their workers well, especially me. Mr. and Mrs. Hiller have no daughter so they treat me well, just like their own daughter. I am really lucky because, despite my low status, they supported Edward and I’s relationship. We have the best people with us – our parents, who love us so much; Joey, my gay best friend, who is Edward’s twin brother; Mark, Edward’s elder brother, who treated me well, just like his own sister; and Josh Lambert, Edward’s best friend, who became a friend like brother to me as well. We couldn’t be happier having these people in our lives. Edward and I got engaged during my 2nd year in college. He asked my hand for marriage while we were still studying because, according to him, “He couldn’t wait to start a life with me” and you know what? The feeling is mutual. It was one of the happiest moments in my life. My greatest dream came true – to be “Edward’s wife”. Our families and friends were happy and very supportive, especially our parents. We started talking about our future family life, our plans and dreams, and seeing the world together. So many things that we wanted to do together. Our wedding is supposed to happen after we graduate from university. Edward and I couldn’t ask for more. My life was really good – a loving fiancée, supportive parents and future –in-laws, and great friends. Everything was going really great until one day… Edward was diagnosed with cancer and later passed away before graduating from university. My world collapsed and I couldn’t accept everything that had happened. I kept asking God, “why Edward? Why, why, why?”. I just couldn’t accept that Edward left me, left this world and couldn’t imagine living this life without him. How am I supposed to continue living without him? He’s been with me since we were young until we grew up. What about his dreams? Our dreams together? Why? I tried to commit suicide to follow Edward but my mother found me earlier and I was saved. They stood by my side during those days, afraid that I might commit suicide again. And now, it’s been three years, three years since Edward left this world, left his family and friends and left… me.
“Edward, I missed you so much every day! I’m trying to live my life without you here with me because that’s what I promised you, but it’s really hard. What should I do, babe?” Whispers Amelia while crying silently.
Three years have passed and now I am working as a Pilot for an airline company under Taylor Groups. I originally wanted to be a Chef because I love cooking and baking. But this was Edward’s dream – he wanted to be a pilot and I wanted to fulfill his dream. Fulfilling his dream makes me feel closer to him.
Rrrrrrnnnggggg!rrrrrnnnggggg!
“Hello, Joey!”
“Amy baby, are you coming home this weekend, the day after tomorrow?”
“Really Joey? Baby?” Feeling amused at her best friend’s endearment.
“Hehe! Of course girl, duh! Anyway, are you coming home this weekend? Remember the dinner, Amy baby? I know you are off this coming weekend, so you should be able to attend dinner. And FYI girl, everyone missed you so much already. You’ve been so busy working that you haven’t had time to come back home. Girl, your parents have complained already and asked me where are you?”
